Celebrating Halloween in Carson City is really unlike any other place because the holiday sometimes lands on the same day as many Nevada Day festivities are underway. To have a more organized and safe Halloween for children, Carson City will again host its "BOOnanza" celebration this Thursday, and the Children's Museum will host a safe trick or treating event Friday.

UPDATE: On Wednesday, by executive order, Governor Steve Sisolak ordered the flags of the United States and the State of Nevada to be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and State public buildings and grounds from sunrise until sunset on Thursday, October 29, 2020 as a mark of solemn respect and in remembrance of Carson City Mayor and native Nevadan Robert “Bob” Crowell, whose memorial is being held Thursday.

The teachers of Carson High School are continuing to ask if the community of Carson City would purchase a T-shirt to support both breast cancer awareness and CHS teacher Kelly Gustafson, who is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

Mr. Thomas A. Bohemier, 74, of Brooksville, Florida passed away peacefully with his wife and children by his side on October 11, 2020.

Glen Lucky was born on Sept. 27, 1952, down in Coronado, Calif. The Carson City School Board of Trustees meets Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 7 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 East William Street. Carson City schools are open today, Thursday, Sept. 17, 2020 for hybrid learning. The forecast indicates the air quality should improve throughout the day. Students and staff should report to school as usual for in-person learning for the hybrid model. Michael A. Smith of Lake Coleman, Texas, formerly of Carson City, Nev., died Sept. 5, 2020 at his residence in Coleman, Texas surrounded by his loving family. He was born Michael A. Smith on Feb. 21, 1948 in Coleman to Jack Smith and Edna Elizabeth Keeney Smith.

Carson City Health and Human Services will be combining drive-thru COVID-19 testing and flu vaccination events for Quad County residents in Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, and Storey counties. Residents can choose to receive a flu vaccine and/or a COVID-19 test at each event from the comfort of their vehicle. No appointments or reservations needed.

The Carson City School District reported an additional three positive COVID-19 cases. Two of the persons work in the transportation department with a connection to the previously reported case.

Those employees previously identified will continue to quarantine for the recommended isolation period, and transportation services will resume as soon as possible (at the earliest, Sept. 22, but possibly longer if more employees test positive).

The third confirmed case is an individual at Carson High School.

CARSON CITY — The U.S. Agriculture Department has extending the free school meal program to millions of children nationwide. The program allows families in need to pick up free food from any convenient school campus, even if their child is not enrolled there.

Due to the number of employees who have been advised to isolate from a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the Transportation Department and out of an abundance of caution, the Carson City School District will temporarily halt all transportation and bus services.
