The second week of January has blown in quite fiercely, with a High Wind Warning to last through 1 p.m. Tuesday. PAL meets every Tuesday night at Partnership Carson City, 1925 N Carson St at 6 p.m. to provide continuing education and support, at no charge, for parents, spouses and those trying to save a family member from addiction to alcohol or drugs. By attending our meetings, you will learn proven ways to help your loved one find recovery from addiction. You will also give and receive support from others who are facing the same challenges you are. Everyone over 18 is welcome to attend. No need to register, just show up at a meeting.

Not only did the nonprofit organization Fellowship of Christian Athletes open their Christmas tree lot Nov. 24 to raise funds for their organization’s events and outreaches, they also supported other organizations and individuals by giving away 350 Angel Tree Christmas stockings and Christmas trees to Carson City children and families in need, and they also partnered with Sierra Lutheran High School to donate 75 trees to the US Marines at the Warfare Training Center in Coleville, Calif.

As we head into the final Monday of 2019, we're looking at a slight chance of light snow in the morning as a weak weather system brushes the region. Events around the Carson City area include a driver's education class offered through Western Nevada College Continuing Education, a luncheon featuring Patricia Ackerman, a Democratic primary candidate for Nevada's 2nd Congressional District, art activities and more.

The Capital City Arts Initiative announces its Photo Finished 2020 exhibition at the Community Development Building, also known as the Brick, 108 East Proctor Street in Carson City.

A surprise early visit from Santa Claus and his band of decked-out merry helpers brought beaming smiles and joy to dozens of capital city children and their families Christmas Eve, a tradition held for nearly 40 years by the Carson City Sheriff's Office Reserve Santa program.

Carson City Elks No. 2177 put on a Children’s Christmas party for local foster children and their parents on Dec. 14 at the Governor’s mansion. Santa was there to take pictures with the children and pass out stockings with toys and candy inside of them. Mrs. Claus passed out candy canes.

Heading into Christmas Eve, activities around the capital city are winding down, but the last minute shopping will continue, so prepare for that rush on the roadways and at local stores. It is the last day of the Holiday Craft Show at Carson Mall, so stop on by. There are no planned Muscle Powered fitness events scheduled. A 34-year-old Dayton woman was arrested Saturday by the Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team for suspicion of child abuse causing substantial bodily harm, burglary, grand larceny, possession of meth and heroin and other charges.

The spirit of Christmas is in the air as we head into the final stretch of the work week. Thursday events around the capital city feature an afternoon hike hosted by Muscle Powered, a Carson City tradition with the return of Joyful Noise Holiday Community Show at the Brewery Arts Center and more.

Heroes come in all forms, whether from law enforcement, first responders, doctors and nurses, or military, and our local heroes came out in full force today for the 16th annual “Holiday with a Hero,” which pairs local children with a hero for a shopping spree hosted by the Market Street Walmart.

Nevada Division of Child and Family Services hosted its annual Sweets With Santa Event Saturday, Dec. 14 in Carson City for the area’s foster youth thanks to our local community partners.

Clouds will roll into the capital city region Tuesday keeping temperatures quite chilly. Happenings around town include organized morning and evening fitness walks, a "Stuff the Bus Toy Drive" at Capital Ford, a Planning Commission meeting on the proposed Andersen Ranch development and a Posada event at Mark Twain Elementary.
