Nevada Day kicks off this morning with annual the Nevada Day Parade, with the theme being "100 Years of Aviation" to go along with the Silver State’s admission to the Union in 1864.

Retired Lt. Col. Dick Rutan of the U.S. Air Force serves as Grand Marshal for today's celebration. He was picked to coincide with the theme, which marks a history-making flight of daredevil pilot William Ivy Baldwin west of Carson City, where he soared to 4,675 feet, the highest ever at that time.
 

Monday morning's Carson City commute may bring with it some debris-dodging following Sunday's wind and rain storm. The Carson City Public Works Department will have no doubt worked throughout the night clearing the streets. Give 'em a wave for their efforts if you see them on the streets.

You can watch the Nevada Day Parade on the internet live as it happens.

Viewers will be able to watch the parade online at www.NevadaDay.com beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30. We Shoot Video, a local media production company, will stream the Nevada Day Parade live via the internet.

Carson City's newest recreation feature will be dedicated on Oct. 23, along with a Fishing Day, highlighting the opening of the one-acre Urban Fishing Pond.

The event, which runs from 7 a.m. to noon at the Carson City Fairgrounds at 601 Old Clear Creek Road, is free to the public. Sponsors include the Nevada Department of Wildlife, Carson City Host Lions Club, and the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department.

Before we get into the list, a shout-out is in order to all the motorists out there who've kept their cool over the past few months. Bottlenecks and delays are never any fun. If anything, the local road projects, including the Roop Street quagmire, may have taught us to get up a little earlier and exercise some patience, which is a good thing. Mindfulness can never do a person wrong.

Jan Mackenzie of Reno was the winner of the Marilyn Monroe Look-a-like contest on Saturday during Dayton Valley Days. The annual street fair's theme this year is the 50th anniversary of the making of the "Misfits" starring Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe, which was filmed in and around Dayton.

Here are more photos from today's Latino Cultural Festival Parade held in Carson City. Festivities continue through 9 today and on Sunday from noon to 7 p.m. at Gold Dust West, 2171 Highway 50.

Formerly known as Salsa Y Salsas, the second Latino Cultural Fest began this morning with a parade down Carson Street and Highway 50 and continued on to Gold Dust West in Carson City. Click here to see more photos. Dozens of horses and cars were featured in the parade, as well as a traveling mariachi band, local politicians and lots of waving.

Formerly known as Salsa Y Salsas, the second Latino Cultural Fest will be held this weekend at Gold Dust West in Carson City. A parade sets the stage on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m. The route begins at the Carson City Sheriff's Office at 911 Musser Street and will run from Fifth Street to Carson to William and then onto Gold Dust West, 2171 Highway 50. The weekend festival runs Saturday, noon to 9 p.m. and on Sunday, noon to 7 p.m.

BLACK ROCK CITY, Nev. — At about 9:45 Saturday night, the crowd was all expectation as fireworks began blazing around the base of the Burning Man figure, 40 feet tall, looming against the black sky over the Black Rock Playa and Black Rock City eight miles from Gerlach, Nev.

Dayton Valley Days Committee is welcoming entries to both the general parade on Saturday, September 18, and to the Pet Parade on Sunday, September 19, 2010. This year’s parade will feature retired Nevada State Archivist Guy Rocha and well-known Dayton Valley rancher Kay Winters as Grand Marshals. Carson City theater lovers have one more chance tonight to enjoy one of the better summer musicals playing in our town.

There are about a million people who know Kenny Guinn better than I do.

But it's that fact that makes the interactions I had with him so interesting.

As a political columnist, I took my fair share of shots at him, on issues like Yucca Mountain and his big tax rebate program. Besides sending his nuke dump point man out to counter my criticisms, he never held those against me.

It's a beautiful day to be in Fuji Park looking at some beautiful cars. The Karson Kruzers 26th Annual Run What Cha Brung Car event is going on right now, so get on down there. There will also be parade down Carson Street tonight at 6:30, followed by a street dance in the Carson Nugget west parking lot. See their website for more information.

Music from 7-11 p.m. Sun, a poker run and awards at noon. Vendors all day at Fuji Park. Fun for the whole family, there will be clowns and a bounce house.

Join Nevada Day, Inc., for its official ribbon cutting ceremony and Grand Marshal announcement on Thursday, 5:30 p.m. at its new office located at 107 West Telegraph in Carson City. The event is sponsored by the Carson City Chamber of Commerce.

With its theme "100 Years of Aviation" Nevada Day Inc., has announced famed aviator Dick Rutan as this year's Grand Marshal for the Nevada Day Parade.
