Carson City Supervisors to discuss rifle range, emergency housing grants, new subdivisions and more

The next Carson City Board of Supervisor’s meeting will take place Thursday, Jan. 21 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Robert ‘Bob’ Crowell Board Room in the Carson City Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

Up for discussion includes improvements to the Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range, Grants for emergency housing, the proposed Little Lane Village subdivision and more.

Carson City sued for $15 million after it refuses to allow hemp-production in Buzzys Ranch area

Carson City is at the center of a legal dispute following its refusal to allow hemp to be grown on property in the Buzzys Ranch area in East Carson City. Tahoe Hemp is suing for $15 million in damages citing the city broke its agreement with the Jarrard Family Trust, which gives rights to the family to use the property for agricultural purposes.

Carson City Board of Supervisors to hear report on inmate deaths at Carson City Jail

The Carson City Board of Supervisors will host their next meeting on Thursday, Jan. 16 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

On the docket for discussion items include a report on deaths occurring at the Carson City Jail, a discussion about restricting religious use at the Brewery Arts Center, presentations of length of service awards, and more.

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department will host an open house for the Carson River Trails Phase II Project.

The project is funded by a grant from the Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act (SNPLMA), which will construct a non-motorized multi-use pathway on the east side of Prison Hill, through Silver Saddle Ranch, and along the Carson River through Buzzy’s Ranch connecting to Riverview Park.

I just returned from Orange, Virginia from a conference held at Montpelier, former US President James Madison's estate. I was chosen among applicants to attend this conference because I think our community needs to know the cool educational opportunities in which teachers are embarking. The conference covered “Gender, Sexual Identity, and the Constitution.”

Aug. 18 open house to address open space, parks in Carson River area

Residents interested in open space and parks along the Carson River, including Silver Saddle Ranch and the Prison Hill Recreation Area, may want to attend an Aug. 18 open house hosted through the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department.

The event will be in Bonanza Room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 East William Street from 3 to 5:45 p.m. and will include information, maps and draft recommendations from the Management Plan. Written comments are also encouraged.

A Walk Down the Fall Art Walk Lane

At 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning a group of well bundled people met in downtown Carson City for the Fall Art Walk. If you missed the walk or forgot to take notes, here is a brief recap.

1) Comma Coffee – The “Backseat Gallery” in the back was featuring art by Barry Mitchell. It was a great opportunity to get a hot coffee too.

2) Legislative Grounds – A viewing of the statues of Kit Carson and Abraham Curry and the Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial along the beautiful ground of the Nevada State Legislature.

Carson City's recent open space acquisitions need naming, citizen input sought

Events come and go but public land, when properly named and designated points highlighted, usually lasts forever.

Two areas of property along the Carson River, acquired by the Carson City Open Space Program, are deserving of names. That's why the city is asking for citizens to chime in with their ideas about what to call them. The property is located near Deer Run Road on the east side of Carson City.

Carson City asks residents to submit names for open space

Carson City residents interested in naming two open space acquisitions are invited by the Open Space Program to submit a written proposal.

The two properties are located on Golden Eagle Lane in the southeast area of Carson City, near the southeast corner of the Prison Hill Recreation Area, according to a news release.

The policies and procedures, property descriptions, and application can be found on the Parks and Recreation Department’s website here.

Carson City Board of Supervisors to consider purchasing Bently property

The Carson City Board of Supervisors will consider accepting the recommendation of the Open Space Advisory Committee to purchase 497 acres in Carson River Canyon at their meeting next Thursday.

Part of this property is slated be used for the extension of the V&T Railway.

The board will also consider purchasing eight new vehicles for the Carson City Sheriff's Office.
