Reservations are required for the guided hike to Virginia City and for the sunset hike.

A bowling tournament and the Comstock Shootout Soccer tournament have the hotels and motels busting at the seams. Celebrate Earth Day with Muscle Powered by making a small piece of Carson City that much cleaner; the trash meets at 8 a.m. and leaves you plenty of time to enjoy the day. Rummage and book sales, live music, a fun run and a half-marathon, comedy and so much more await you. Check out the list for all the ways to embrace the sunshine.

Partnership allows free trail system cross-country skiing at Spooner Lake

The trail system is free to the public and made possible by a partnership between Nevada State Parks and Nevada Nordic, a non-profit group based in the Tahoe Basin.

Fire restrictions in Western Nevada to be lifted Friday; Carson City restrictions to remain in place

The Carson City Fire Department, however, has no intention at this time of lifting fire restrictions within the city limits.
Curator looks at connection of collection found on eBay and at Fort Churchill

Gene Hattori, curator of anthropology, explores the artifacts donated to Nevada State Parks after an eBay auction. The collection was purported to be recovered from the Fort Churchill site in 1957.
Nevada State Parks launches second amateur photo contest at Fort Churchill

Visitors to Fort Churchill and Buckland Station are invited to submit photos of scenery, plants, wildlife and cultural resources found within the park. The top three winners will receive a Nevada State Parks Passport Permit, good for unlimited free entrance to any Nevada State Park for an entire year.
Sand Harbor Overlook hiking tour along Tahoe Rim Trail set for Sept. 17

We’ll meet at Spooner Lake at 8:45 a.m. and carpool to the Marlette Peak Campground. From there we’ll hike 2 miles to the overlook. The magnificent views from the top stretch across the sparkling waters of Lake Tahoe and jagged peaks of the high sierra.
Carson River talk and walk featured Aug. 6 at Dayton State Park

Doug 'Mac the Naw' Busey's Lake Tahoe and Sierra area fishing report May 19 and beyond

Although down in the valley the temperatures have been in the low 40's to mid 70 degrees. The higher lakes are still in winter, spring mode. Temperatures are in the low 30's and not rising until after mid day and may only hold a mid 60 degree temperature for an hour or so. Be prepared when you travel to the higher elevations.

The event, June 17-19, will gives riders three distance options: beginner, weekend warrior and pro level.
The riding courses were picked in cooperation with Visit Carson City, the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest and Nevada State Parks.
Parks around Nevada to receive federal grant money for upgrades

April events lined up at Fort Churchill State Historic Park

Built in 1861 to provide protection for early settlers, Fort Churchill was once an active U.S. Army fort. it was abandoned nine years later. Today the ruins are preserved in a state of arrested decay. A visitor center displays information and artifacts of the fort’s history.
Washoe Lake State Park events in April feature astronomy program, wildflower walk and hikes

Nevada tourism agency partners with Google Maps in trekker campaign

The areas will also be mapped on the TravelNevada website and available for use by any participating tourism entity, such as the many Nevada state parks that aided in filming.
Annual Easter Egg Hunt at Lahontan State Recreation Area this Saturday
Submitted by editor on Tue, 03/22/2016 - 9:30amLahontan State Recreation Area will host its Annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 26. Each year, park employees and volunteers fill upward of 3,000 plastic eggs with candy and then scatter them around the day-use area of the park.
