It was a day for citizens to say thank you for those who make a living putting their lives on the line. On Saturday, Carson City officially joined the ranks of cities across the country that have now hosted Law Enforcement Appreciation Days, a grass roots movement that continues to grow from coast to coast.

Man arrested in Bakersfield as part of large methamphetamine ring now in Carson City jail

A 34-year-old man who was arrested earlier this month in Bakersfield along with five others in Carson City for alleged involvement in a large methamphetamine trafficking ring was extradited to Carson City on Friday where he is being held on $250,000 bail, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Man convicted in murder of Silver Springs woman

The man accused of killing a Silver Springs woman has been found guilty of first-degree murder by a Yerington jury, according to News 4 reports.
Ryan Coddington was convicted in the death of Alea Clark, 32, who was reported missing on Jan. 9, 2015. Her remains were found at Lahontan State Recreation Area Feb. 3, 2015.

Tri-Net: Drug task force breaks up huge Carson City meth supplier ring

More than three pounds of methamphetamine along with weapons were seized and several were arrested Wednesday at a home raid in Carson City following a three-month investigation, according to the Tri-Net drug task force.

Arrest warrants were executed in Carson City and the Bakersfield, California area. During the investigation, a decade long Mexican drug trafficking organization was dismantled in Carson City, according to Sgt. Dan Johnson, Nevada Department of Public Safety Investigation Division of the Tri-Net Narcotic Task Force.

A recent check of 186 sex offenders in Lyon County and Fallon resulted in one arrest and 26 people found to not be in compliance with registration requirements, the Nevada Department of Public Safety and Parole and Probation announced Tuesday.

The multi-agency collaborative effort, called "Operation Vigilance" was done to verify sex offender registration compliance and was conducted in Dayton, Silver Springs, Yerington, Fernley, Stagecoach and Fallon.

Lyon County firefighters gain control of tire fire in Silver Springs

UPDATE 850AM: The Central Lyon County Fire Protection District reports the tire fire off Orange Street in east Sliver Springs has been contained and extinguished.

The Fire District estimates that firefighters will be on scene mopping up the fire until around noon today, and then the fire will be in patrol status for 24 hours, said Rob Loveberg, Lyon County community development director and emergency management coordinator.

Highway 50 livestock fencing project begins

The Nevada Department of Transportation will enhance traffic safety with a new project that began Monday by installing livestock fencing on sections of Highway 50 in Silver Springs.

The project will fence approximately four and a half miles of U.S. 50 between Boyer Lane and Pinto Street and from Onyx Street to the U.S. 95 Alternate intersection in Silver Springs. The four-strand, smooth wire fencing will stand four feet high to help prevent wild horses and cattle from entering the highway.

Sex offender sweep in Carson City results in 226 compliance checks, two arrests

Law enforcement officers from around the region participated in a sex offender sweep late last week known as Operation Vigilance, a multi-agency collaborative effort to verify sex offender registration compliance around Carson City.

The joint effort resulted in 226 sex offender compliance checks. As a result of Operation Vigilance, 2 supervised offenders were arrested for violating their parole or probation terms and conditions, said Lt. Jorge Pierrott of Nevada Parole and Probation Northern Command in Carson City.
