National Youth Science Day

Good morning Carson City, today is Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018. We may get a chance to see something we haven't in a while: Rain showers. Among today's featured events are a morning walk and evening hike, a Pony Express celebration in Silver Springs, a viewing of the Hitchcock classic "Rear Window" and more.

CARSON CITY — Kids and teens ages 10-14 in Carson City will join more than 150,000 children across the country in leading the 11th annual 4-H National Youth Science Day challenge throughout the month of October. This year’s challenge, Code Your World, teaches young people computer science skills through four engaging hands-on activities.

Some weekends are pretty cut and dry, just a few things to choose among. This, however, is not one of those weekends. High-flying, death-defying action takes over the Minden Airport as the Aviation Roundup Air Show takes to the skies. Pasta-lovers won’t want to miss the Eldorado Great Italian Festival in downtown Reno. Carson City’s monthly Downtown Wine Walk gets a dose of nostalgia as the Western Airstream Convention sets up shop and welcomes the curious.

University of Nevada Cooperative Extension 4-H program offers hands-on learning to local youth

RENO, Nev. – Youth in Nevada are getting a unique opportunity to build their own low-cost wearable fitness trackers, then use the trackers to collect data on their own movement.

Over the next week, as part of National 4-H Week, youth in Nevada will join over 100,000 youth across the world in leading the ninth annual 4-H National Youth Science Day challenge.

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Carson City/ Storey County Office is hosting 4-H National Youth Science Day on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 10 a.m. to noon at 2621 Northgate Lane Suite No. 15.

4-H National Youth Science Day is the world's largest youth-led science experiment. Every year thousands of youth are taking part in the National Science Experiment focusing on important STEM topics and issues.
