Nationwide emergency alert test to go out today on mobile phones, TV and radio
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 10/03/2018 - 9:07amFEMA, in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission, will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergency Alerts Wednesday morning, Oct. 3. The wireless portion of the test, which will be sent to consumer cell phones, will begin at 11:18 a.m. Pacific Time and two minutes later television and radio stations.

The National Weather Service advises periods of degraded air quality will continue. However, many areas could see thinning smoke for at least the next couple days as winds shift to more east to southeast direction. This would carry the bulk of any new smoke away from the area, forecasters say. This may be a short-lived break as westerly flow looks like it will return late in the week and for the weekend.

National Weather Service issues thunderstorm warning for Western Nevada

Dime size hail and wind gusts up to 50 mph will be possible with this storm. Brief heavy rain is also possible with this storm. Outflow winds could reach as far northwest as South Lake Tahoe.
Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
