Several Tahoe ski resorts to open this weekend
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Thu, 11/18/2010 - 11:47pmA handful of Lake Tahoe ski resorts prepare to open for the season this weekend thanks to an early snowfall, snowmaking guns and a fairly large storm set to punch the Sierra.
Around a foot or more of natural snow across the Sierra earlier this month certainly helped get things moving. With this weekend's anticipated storm, which may bring anywhere from 2-4 feet of snow to the Sierra, resorts should get a nice healthy boost just in time for the holiday season.

The show goes on for 'White Christmas' this weekend at Carson City Community Center
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Fri, 11/12/2010 - 11:54amLast week I wrote that I was the only spectator at the Friday night opening of the Western Musical Comedy production of "White Christmas."
Of course, that was because the show didn't open until Saturday. But I stayed through the first act and reported that all was fine, music stirring, cast excellent and Stephanie Arrigotti's direction made everything move like clock work.

Sneak preview of 'White Christmas' at Carson Community Center
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Sat, 11/06/2010 - 7:20amYep, I got to the Carson Community Center a 7:30 p.m. Friday night, ready to enjoy the Western Nevada musical "White Christmas." Big show, big cast, great music.
But the audience didn't show up. No one but me, except for Stephanie Arrigotti, producer and director and her cast of thousands.I then realized the the WNMCC opens its shows on Saturdays rather then Fridays.
So what, I was there, the orchestra was warming up, the actors were on stage, the house lights were dimmed and there were plenty of seats, so I sat to enjoy a private preview, the dress rehearsal.

Former mayors question Nugget Project
Submitted by admin on Thu, 10/28/2010 - 8:04amBy Guy W. Farmer
After Carson Nugget President Steve Neighbors accused me of basing my opposition to the Nugget Bailout Project (aka the City Center Project) on “conjecture and false innuendo” in last Tuesday’s Appeal, I asked former mayors Ray Masayko and Marv Teixeira for their opinions on this dubious project. Both Masayko and Teixeira, who were political rivals in recent years, raised serious questions about the $80 million project, which would put nearly $40 million tax dollars at risk during an economic recession and
impose an additional one-eighth-cent sales tax.

Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Sun, 10/17/2010 - 6:14pmWhy Miles Davis left some of us behind and why we're just now catching up
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Sun, 10/17/2010 - 5:31pmI’ve been a longtime fan of jazz trumpeter Miles Davis. This is, up until he moved beyond me into funk and rock, not exactly jazz to my way of thinking. I was still back with his record-selling “King of Blue” CD. Then I saw a listing in Netflix for “Miles Davis: Miles Electric: A Different Kind of Blue,” and I ordered it. Couldn’t be all bad, I figured.
