Meet Your Local Farmer: Tea House Gardens in Washoe Valley offers fresh micro-farmed produce

Farming and ranching is all around in Northern Nevada, and some of those who are doing it may even be your neighbors.

Donna and Bill Murphy-Sharp have been “micro-farming” on their one acre property in Eastlake, Washoe Valley for many years, and became certified producers of produce in the area in 2011.

Adele's owner discusses hardships, community support and future projects on anniversary of devastating fire

A year ago today, firefighters were called to the historic Adele's restaurant at 5:19 a.m., during a freezing morning before the sun had even crested the hills. It wasn't a large blaze, most of it had actually been confined to the laundry room in the back of the building. But over the next several months while the popular cafe stood empty, it's doors and windows boarded shut, it was determined that the smoke damage to the building was too great to save.

Carson City area businesses react to closure orders, many unsure of mandated procedures

By noon Wednesday, all "non-essential" businesses in Nevada were required to shut down by state decree in an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19. However, some local business owners were confused as to the procedure for the shut down, which businesses in fact are required to close and in what ways can they remain open.

Carson City's Casino Fandango 'Craft 55' bar offers local brew, unique pub fare

The Casino Fandango has opened its new “Craft 55” bar, which is dedicated to craft beers and a pub-style menu with a few unique twists, including Duck Wings served with blue cheese dressing and celery sticks, bangers and mash, and chipotle shrimp cocktail, along with traditional pub fare such as sliders, bacon mac and cheese, buffalo chicken wings and more.

greenUP!, a nonprofit organization that provides environmental education to businesses, announced it has received a $12,898 grant from the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection Bureau of Sustainable Materials Management 2020 Recycling Grant Program.

Artisan Cafe in downtown Carson City now under new ownership

The Artisan Cafe, located at 701 S Carson St., in downtown Carson City is now under new ownership to begin the new decade.

According to Kira McElroy, who took over the cafe on Jan. 1 with husband Rubin, the previous owner, Jeanne Day, was ready to take on new adventures, and offered to pass along ownership to the husband-wife team.

Carson City's Bleu Cafe reopens restaurant, bar for lunch following public outcry

Carson City's Bleu Cafe closed their restaurant doors in November to focus on catering and parties, but after months of public outcry from Bleu Cafe enthusiasts, Chef Roberta Davies has opened the restaurant and bar for lunch, Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The restaurant is popular for their menu that touts cooking "the old fashioned way," with every item made from scratch using real ingredients. When it closed, the public let Davies know just how upset they were.

Carson City's newest Italian restaurant, Cucina Lupo, officially open for business

Cucina Lupo, Carson City’s newest Italian restaurant, hosted its grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday.

The owner, Mark Estee, is also the proprietor of several other local restaurants including Carson City’s The Union, Gardnerville’s Overland Restaurant and Pub, and Reno’s Liberty Food and Wine Exchange, as well as Chez Louie in the Nevada Museum of Art.
