Trans-American Electric Bicycle Tour Talk

Muscle Powered will be hosting a talk by Boris Mordkovich and Anna Mostovetsky who have been transecting the country riding their electric bicycles.

The Trans-American Electric Bike Tour is a 4,000 mile journey from New York to San Francisco. The entire trip is self-supported, just two electric bicycles, and all the equipment and gear needed for the two-month journey. The purpose of the trip is to promote bicycle commuting, recreational cycling, and alternative transportation. www.transamericanelectricbiketour.com

Doyle Fire Station hosting Open House on June 3

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the U.S. Forest Service will be hosting a public open house and free barbecue lunch at the Doyle Interagency Fire Station in Doyle, California, on Friday, June 3, from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

The Doyle Interagency Fire Station is located at 434-695 Doyle Loop Road in Doyle, Calif.
Come meet and greet wildland firefighters from the BLM Carson City and Susanville Districts and the Plumas National Forest, tour the station facilities, and check out the wildland firefighting equipment.

Governor Sandoval Reads to Students at Spread the Word Nevada's Adopted School

At the request of Spread the Word Nevada, a local children's literacy nonprofit group, Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval flew in from Carson City to Las Vegas on March 31 to read at Cambeiro Elementary School.

This was his last stop after visiting three other schools in Las Vegas, which concluded the governor's reading tour as part of Read Across America and Nevada Reading Month. During his first school visit in Reno on March 2 Sandoval signed a proclamation declaring March 2011 Nevada Reading Month.

Sheriff Furlong responds to opponent's comment about gang problem

A comment posted by sheriff candidate Bob Guimont has drawn a lengthy and detailed response by the person he is hoping to replace.

Carson City Sheriff Kenny Furlong sent Carson Now his response to Guimont's comment that was posted after a gang-related shooting incident two weeks ago. Carson Now contacted Guimont and verified that the comment did in fact come from him.
