Titus, Amodei wager community service, Fremont Cannon trophy on Rebels, Wolf Pack game
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 10/25/2013 - 11:21amNevada House Representatives Dina Titus, Professor Emerita at UNLV, and Mark Amodei, a University of Nevada alumnus, Friday announced a friendly wager on Saturday’s football game between the Runnin' Rebels and the Wolf Pack in Reno.
In honor of “Make A Difference Day,” they will perform a community service project with the losing member sporting the opposing team’s sweatshirt and supplying the victor with an appropriate colored Fremont Cannon replica.

Children who are taken "into care" by the state due to abuse or neglect are often placed with relatives. But, if that cannot occur, the child is placed in a foster home. These children need to remain in their community — in their school, with their teacher, close to their friends and close to their family — while the child welfare case proceeds and it is determined whether they can return to their home. Carson City does not have enough foster homes.

“We were in need of a kitchen to make lunches for children in our program and the Carson Nugget stepped right up to the plate and agreed to allow us to use their kitchen facilities,” said Stephanie Gardner, executive director, Food for Thought. “This is great because it will allow us to continue this much needed program during the summer months when school is not in session.”
New Administrator Named at the Lodge Assisted Living and Memory Care Community

Ms. Haack has worked at The Lodge for more than two years as the Wellness Coordinator.
Haack has extensive experience working with elders in the Carson City and Carson Valley areas. Prior to joining the Lodge she worked at the Carson Valley Residential Care Center in Gardnerville for many years and has also worked as a private in home caregiver. She believes that working with elders is a true calling.

To be discussed with great interest is the protection and health of Lake Tahoe's fragile environment and economy.
“The health of the environment and the health of the economy at Tahoe are linked,” Derek Kauneckis, political science professor and researcher at the University of Nevada, Reno said. “And the collaborations that have been established at the Lake have set the stage for future efforts.”

Obama Visits Reno, Urges Congress To Expand Mortgage Refinancing Program

Nevada Wildfire Awareness Week - A time to review your homeowner’s insurance

The dollar amount of these claims, mostly due to fire, wind or smoke damage is approaching $35 million.
These insurance claim estimates show the dangers of wildfire. Nevadans should take action during Nevada Wildfire Awareness Week (NWAW) to prepare their homes and evaluate their insurance to prepare for wildfire season.

Ordinary people with good communication skills, caring, patience and writing ability advocate for the best interests of the child while they are in state care.

One Too Many - Childhood Hunger in Northern Nevada

The horrible shooting at the Carson IHOP that left 4 dead and injured 7, followed by the fatal accident at the air races that took the lives of 11 people and injured more than 70, is a sad and real reminder of how short our time on this earth can be. Left behind are spouses, children, grandchildren and other friends. Along with the unexpected death of their loved one, often comes with a loss of income and other unexpected expenses.

This celebration brings together numerous groups and individuals concerned about cancer in a unified effort to fight back.
Teams of enthusiastic residents will gather at Centennial Field for an overnight relay from 10am July 16th to 10am July 17th. The event celebrates anyone who has battled cancer and their caregivers and also remembers loved ones lost.
