Carson High School senior and Partnership Carson City Community Prevention Coordinator Cruz Bulmer, 19, is spreading the word about the Deterra Drug Deactivation System.

The Nevada Families First program presents a day of fun at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada. We will start our visit with story time followed by an art activity, then work our way through the museum and play with your child/children. We have reserved an hour and a half for our group connection, but you are welcome to stay longer.

Heading into Thursday, happenings lined up include a monthly meeting of the Carson City Native and Newcomers, a preserving history workshop through the Nevada State Archives, trivia night at Bella Vita Bistro, an introduction into improv comedy at the Brewery Arts Center, a Muscle Powered afternoon hike and more. “We did our free clinic at the Community Center, and what a turnout we had; around 100 participants showed up, we had a ton of fun, and we even had high school varsity players help coach the clinic as well” said Carson High School Varsity Basketball coach Jordan Glover.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. The monthly Downtown Carson City Wine Walk takes place Saturday followed by a performance from Tom Petty and Rod Stewart tribute bands during The Do Drop In’s “A Face in the Crowd” homeless fundraiser at Fuji Park. St. Teresa School will host its 17th annual Crab Feed Fundraiser. Combined with comedy at the Carson Nugget and Brewery Arts Center, the Carson City region is in store for a busy weekend. Local author, Janice Oberding, will be the featured speaker for the March Nevada in Small Bites brown bag lunch. Aside from those who were incarcerated there, she is one of only a few people who have spent an entire night at Alcatraz.

Hello to everyone in Carson City. My name is Destiny Hernandez, and I am a senior at Carson High School. Just like all of the other seniors here at the school, I am working on my Senior Project, a graduation requirement, in order to benefit not only myself but also those animals in the community who need a home.

The 20th Annual Snowshoe Thompson Ski & Snowshoe Celebration returns once again to the Sierra on Saturday, March 7 at 9:00 am, at the Lake Tahoe Golf Course in South Lake Tahoe.

Snow or no snow, event activities begin with a guided tour starting at 9:30 am with Norwegian native and longboard ski expert Nina MacLeod, who will also give a longboard ski demonstration if sufficient snow is present. Attendees should bring their own snowshoes and cross country skis.

CARSON CITY, Nev. – Carson City Nevada Triad presents Scams Targeting Older Adults a presentation designed to educate you on the current trends in frauds and scams and learn how to not fall victim to their ploys. The event will take place in the Joshua Tree Room at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive, Tuesday, March 3 from 1 to 2 p.m.

Each year, National Read Across America Day is observed on March 2, the birthday of children’s book author Ted Geisel, also known as Dr. Seuss. In celebration, many schools often dedicate an entire week as “Reading Week.” In Carson City, grade-schoolers at Fremont Elementary School got to celebrate a week prior to the observance with several community partners and local dignitaries, who visited classrooms to read to students.

Mary Liveratti, former president of AARP Nevada, will lead a discussion about the runaway cost of prescription drugs at Monday's Democratic luncheon. She will present the stunning documentary Big Pharma: Market Failure, which covers the pharmaceutical industry's role in the ever-spiraling cost of medicine.

Time flies as the sun shines going into the last Monday in February. Expect daytime highs around 60. Activities include are a political luncheon with Clint Koble, a primary candidate for the 2nd Congressional District, plus yoga, fitness events, West Coast swing dance lessons at Carson Lanes and more.

Nevada Commission for Women and the Nevada Women’s Suffrage Celebration Committee formed to help facilitate collaboration among organizations in Nevada to celebrate and commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment. As part of her Carson High School Senior Project graduation requirement, student, and committee member, Chloe Walt is working to educate Nevadans on the suffrage movement and the historic importance of the ratification of the 19th Amendment.

At its Program meeting on Wednesday, February 26, Carson City Soroptimist will feature John Malcolm, the Prevention Education Specialist for Safe Embrace, an area non-profit dedicated to educating the community and providing services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence.

Letter to Mayor, Dear Mayor Crowell: I am the Carson City Chapter President of the Retired Public Employees of Nevada. The group is dedicated to issues important to senior citizens and is active in monitoring actions both statewide and nationally that concern the status of Social Security and pension. I would like to make you aware of recent events that are of concern to my group.

Wednesday events include a yoga class, the first of what will become monthly "Welcome Wednesday" luncheons at the Carson City Senior Center, a new shift of hours and days at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, Salsa dancing at Yaple's Ballroom, country and pop dancing at Carson Lanes, a safety workshop for women and more.

The Carson City Senior Center will be holding Welcome Wednesday Lunches on the third Wednesday of every month beginning February 19, at 10:30 a.m.

Heading into Monday, Presidents' Day, we're looking at sunny skies and a high near 55. Being a federal holiday, local, state and federal offices are closed, as are schools and banks. Activities include a meeting of Carson City AGLOW International at the Children's Museum, a campaign rally featuring presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg, a meeting of the Carson City Democrats focusing on Saturday's Nevada caucus, fitness events, West Coast swing dance lessons at Carson Lanes and more.
