The nights are starting to get chilly, so sweaters, scarves, and pumpkin everything are on the way. Crisp fall evenings are perfect for movie watching. Develop a love of old movies with the Carson City Classic Cinema Club. They meet tonight at Red’s Old 395 and will be watching noir classic ‘Suddenly’ with Frank Sinatra. Or kick up your heels and head to Carson Lanes for some line dancing.

Tuesday Easy Walk at Lone Mountain Cemetery

A different walk every week on Tuesdays. Walks are easy paced, on level ground, of approximately 1 hour duration, and of no cost to participants. All skill levels are welcome and leader is willing to work with participants to develop an individual walking program. Participants are responsible for their own transportation and leader may request physician’s release if needed.

A walking tour of our haunted past begins at the corner of Third and Curry with the Downtown Ghost Walk. Celebrate Prohibition-style at the Brewery Arts Center: the annual Speakeasy Swing Dance Party wants to see you in your finest zoot suit or flapper dress. Head back to the Eighties at Living the Good Life; DJ Bobby G is spinning the hits from yesteryear.
Muscle Powered's August Trash Mob is this Saturday

A limited number of parking passes are available at City Hall starting today, and discounted all-day carnival ride passes are for sale at the Visitor Center. The four days of fun start July 30. Tonight, enjoy Farewell to Arms with the Carson City Classic Cinema Club at Red’s Old 395. Learn to Line Dance at Carson Lanes, or get your swing on with lessons at El Charro’s. Check out the new karaoke night at Living the Good Life and get dinner and a show.

Carson City contracts with consultant to inventory trees as part of management plan

National HIV Testing Day slated for Saturday
Submitted by editor on Mon, 06/22/2015 - 4:09pmThe Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health urges Nevadans to “Start Talking. Stop HIV.” Knowing your status is important, and testing is quick and easy. Free HIV testing is available in Carson City and Reno.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, too many people are unaware they have human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). In the United States, nearly 1.2 million people are living with HIV, and almost one in seven (14 percent) do not know they are infected. In 2014 in Nevada, there were 420 new HIV diagnoses and more than 9,831 persons living with HIV/AIDS.
Memorial Day, May 25: Things to do around Carson City

Current and retired military and their significant others can indulge in a complementary soak at the Carson Hot Springs. Empire Ranch Golf Course is offering a free round of golf with a military I.D., in addition to other specials.
Evergreen Gene’s on North Carson Street hosts their annual picnic on Monday: hamburgers and hot dogs for all.

The historic 1885 Glenbrook Steam Engine will be on display Saturday, all steamed up with the Inyo at the Nevada Railroad Museum. You will want to arrive before the dedication ceremony at 11 a.m. to get the best photos. The V and T Steam Engine #25 will be running all weekend if you want to take a ride. It’s also opening weekend for the Virginia and Truckee that departs from the Eastgate Depot for Virginia City. Roundtrips sell out fast, so make sure to get a reservation if you want to go.

Body found on Carson City hiking trail was inside sleeping bag
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 03/17/2015 - 11:34amUPDATE 7:48PM: A mostly decomposed body inside of a sleeping bag was removed from a shallow two-foot grave on Lone Mountain, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong. Details regarding the identity, gender and age are pending an autopsy scheduled for Wednesday. No other details are available at this time.

UPDATE 4:48PM: The body found by a hiker Tuesday morning off a hiking trail in the hills above Lone Mountain Cemetery has been removed and an autopsy will be performed Wednesday morning, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

A 29-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 12:18 a.m. in the 1600 block of North Fall Street on suspicion of domestic battery, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Coincidentally, today is Strauss’ birthday. Once upon a time in Nevada, Buffalo Bill Cody was just a kid riding for the Pony Express. It’s his birthday, too. Fun fact: Cuba Crutchfield, a trick-rope cowboy with Buffalo Bill’s Wild West, is buried in Carson City’s Lone Mountain Cemetery. Once upon a time in Nevada, a man was shot in Reno.
Crossroads Bar on East Winnie Lane burglarized with cleaning person inside
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 02/17/2015 - 8:42amThe Crossroads Bar at Winnie Lane was burglarized this morning, with the cleaning person inside the business at the time they broke in, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.
The burglary happened at around 6:30 a.m., and involved two men, each wearing dark clothing and ski masks. They made entry, possibly using tools, gaining access through the back of the business at 300 east Winnie Lane across from Lone Mountain. Some evidence has been recovered, according to officers on scene. The cleaning person was not injured.

Carson City sheriff’s weekend log: felony arrests made for vehicle theft, assault
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 02/08/2015 - 4:41pmA Carson City man was arrested Friday, 10:30 a.m. on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle after a brief vehicle pursuit with officers, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Arrested was Adrian Garcia Montez, 21, of Carson City. Bail has been set at $25,000. According to the booking report, deputies were dispatched to a call of an occupied stolen vehicle that was being followed by the victim.
Help needed for Fuzzy the Australian Shepherd

Fuzzy is an Australian Shepherd dog who is about 5 years old. In October he was tied by a leash to the front porch of a rural animal shelter in Yerington, Nevada. He was left with a teddy bear, french fries and a note attached to his leash saying that someone found him but couldn't care for him. The animal shelter took him in and have been caring for him since.
Verl Kately Means
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Thu, 01/08/2015 - 7:42pmIn the early morning hours of January 2, 2015 Verl passed away, peacefully of natural causes, while residing at the Mountain View Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carson City, NV. He was 100 years old.
Verl was born on November 8, 1914 in Joplin, Missouri, one of three children born to Howard and Janie May Means.
Fundraiser for Holly
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 12/03/2014 - 1:33pmHolly is a five year old canine who was recently diagnosed with papillary squamous cell carcinoma cancer. Holly has been under the care of the Lone Mountain Veterinary Hospital and now requires a very expensive surgery.
Holly's owner, Amy Shelton, is a twenty five year old long time resident of Carson and is asking the community to help in any way they can. Amy, Holly, friends and family will hold a fundraising bake sale, Sunday, December 7th at 1:00pm in front of the Petco on Topsy Lane.
Carson City sheriff’s arrest log: Suspects jailed on assault, stalking and warrant charges

Christoper Matthew Couch is being held on $35,000 bail. According to the arrest report, officers were called to the 3800 block of South Carson Street regarding two people arguing. Dispatch advised they were getting several 911 calls and one of the reporting witnesses said one of the men hit the other.
