Veterans Day flag placement at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City

Thank you to all who came out to help this morning to remember our local veterans by placing flags on their grave sites. Happy Veterans Day to all our Men, Woman and their families who have served in our Armed Forces. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Carson City residents answer the call, donate hundreds of household items to local veterans

When the Sierra-Tahoe Unit-137 of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve Association asked for donations in an inaugural “drive by” collection Saturday for homeless veterans recently placed in housing, Carson City residents answered the call.

Hundreds of slightly used and new household items filling more than a hundred boxes were collected Saturday at the Veterans Memorial Hall on 2nd and Curry Street. The “Drive by Car Hop” exceeded all expectations, organizers say.

Veterans honored at Carson Middle School

Carson Middle School students, teachers and staff honored local veterans Thursday.

The event began with polite and enthusiastic student greeters who met guests and escorted them into the school gym for a reception of tasty treats and a Patriotic program. Veterans and guests were welcomed by Carson Middle School Choir Director Briana Valley and the CMS program emcees Melanie Proctor and Makayl Holloway.

Local Veterans Affairs Office Expands Mental Health Services

The local Veterans Affairs Sierra Nevada Health Care System has hired 12 new mental health professionals to better serve local veterans. The VA says the new clinical positions will allow veterans to schedule appointments before or after work and on weekends.

Carson senior goes extreme with coupons; collects items for local veterans

A senior project for a Carson City high school student that involved "extreme couponing" for two months netted more than $1,100 worth of goods that he donated to area veterans.

Dallas Burnett, a Carson High School senior, managed to find, clip, cut, and ultimately save $818.56 in grocery and household items that he donated to the Veterans Guest House in Reno.

WNC Outreach Event to Assist Local Veterans

The Veterans Administration will host an outreach event and barbecue for local veterans and their families from 2-6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 10, at the Western Nevada College Carson City campus, 2201 West College Parkway.

Local Manogue Honors Student Recognizes Sacrifices and Patriotism of Others

Jake Bayliss, a senior at Reno’s Bishop Manogue High School and Carson City resident, decided to support American Veterans in need by organizing a “Toiletries Drive” to benefit the VA Hospital in Reno, Nevada. Jake gathered over 200 kits containing toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, razors, shaving cream and deodorant which he delivered to the VA Hospital on August 22, 2012.
