The Veterans Administration will host an outreach event and barbecue for local veterans and their families from 2-6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 10, at the Western Nevada College Carson City campus, 2201 West College Parkway.
The VA’s Mobile Vet Center will be onsite for the event, which will take place on the lawn and plaza just west of the Dini Library and Student Center. The event offers an opportunity for veterans to learn about the various resources available to them through the VA, including education assistance and benefits consultation. The WNC student veteran club will facilitate a membership drive at the event.
“We’ll be there to guide veterans on how to get the services they need so they can be successful in school,” said VA social worker Alison Pratte.
"WNC is delighted about our new partnership with the Veterans Administration through the V.I.T.A.L. grant,” said WNC Dean of Student Services John Kinkella. “Events like this can connect colleges and universities with the many services the V.A. provides. As a "Military Friendly College", WNC is honored to participate in this innovative program."
The event is made possible with federal funding from the Department of the Defense through the VITAL (Veterans Integration to Academic Leadership) grant. The grant is enabling the VA to establish outreach programs for veterans at WNC, as well as at the University of Nevada, Reno and Truckee Meadows Community College.
