Battle Born Harley Davidson is throwing an appreciation party complete with food trucks. Virginia City’s annual Veterans Day Parade begins at 11 a.m. and the City of Reno will commence their parade after a short ceremony beginning at 11:11 a.m. You’ll find an abundance of craft fairs in Carson City, Carson Valley, and Dayton. Four Carson City elementary teachers earn NASA classroom certification

Tomorrow we observe Veterans Day, and say thank you to those who have fought for freedom and liberty. It definitely feels like soup weather, so it’s only appropriate that the Carson Chamber of Commerce is hosting one of their ‘Soup’s On’ Lectures.

Enjoy some air conditioned entertainment with the Carolyn Dolan Band at the Carson Mall. ‘Elvis, Marilyn and the Space Aliens’ and their place in the movies is the topic of this month’s Douglas County Historical Society’s lecture.

The Carson Library starts the day with story time for the little ones, and ends with an exciting science presentation featuring Fire and Ice. Learn a little about Nevada with photographer Ernie Winters at the Gold Hill Hotel. He’ll take you back in time with color photographs of Virginia City in the 50s.

The Natural History of the Greater Sage-grouse

Sage-grouse are one of the species of bird who “lek”, which is when a large group of males gather at a location to show off to females. The species are not only interesting because of their unique natural history, but because they are controversial. The species has been in decline in recent years, and this has led to contentious debates on whether they should be listed on the Endangered Species List and what our responsibility to wildlife is.

The Nevada State Fair kicks off today in Carson City’s Mills Park and so does the Annual Carson Valley Days celebration in Douglas County. No matter where you are, there is a carnival nearby. You’ll find some fun in downtown Carson tonight with karaoke at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar or at the Westside Pour House. Kick start your bike and head to Battle Born Harley; their Bike Night features live music by the Smoken Rabbits. Keep a sweater handy, the temperature is dipping a little, and will drop even further as soon as the sun goes down.

In this classroom only course new drivers can prepare for the challenges of driving (and driver license testing) in the Western Nevada College Driver Education Program. The non-credit course meets four days for 30 hours of classroom training; Students must be at least 15 years of age on the last day of class to be eligible to take the course. The WNC Driver Education Program meets the training requirements to obtain a Nevada driver’s license.

Unfortunately, something cloudy is around the corner, so please embrace what today gives us – as Northern Nevadans, we know that the weather is fickle. Thursdays offer up karaoke at Westside Pour House and Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar – too much fun for a weekday. You may have noticed the hullaballoo at Mills Park; the annual Mothers’ Day Carnival opens tonight, and all of the rides are only one dollar each thanks to the generosity of Dick Campagni’s Carson City Toyota Scion.

WNC has planned a number of Earth Day events, including the showing of a Leonardo DiCaprio film on climate change, as well as several environment speakers and information booths. The public is invited to celebrate the following Earth Day events at WNC at no charge.
