Cookies with Santa holiday event at Adele's to benefit local children and families

For a few hours one day each year, children of all ages are offered the opportunity to immerse themselves in the full spirit of the season, when Cafe at Adele’s hosts Cookies with Santa, a benefit event that combines all the best aspects of good cheer with helping to provide gifts for area children.

My snow dance worked! The weather should start clearing up for the next few days, so the roads should be clear. There’s no need to leave our valley though, great things are happening. The annual Share Your Christmas food drive goes on for most of the day: you don’t even need to leave your car, just drive up to the Governor’s Mansion, and someone will get your donation to the right place. Unwind, decompress and relax at a number of our great bars and restaurants.

Join Supervisor Karen Abowd in December walkabout at Mills Park this Friday

The community is invited to participate in Carson City Supervisor, Ward 1 Karen Abowd's last walkabout of the year, Friday, Dec. 11 at Mills Park.

These meetings take place the second Friday of each month, except January, and offer constituents a forum for discussing ideas and their wishes and concerns about the community, government and how to make improvements.

“Some of the best ideas have come out of these informal gatherings, and as I have always said, it helps me to do my job well,” Abowd said.

University of Nevada Cooperative Extension hires new Carson City Extension educator

University of Nevada Cooperative Extension welcomes Lindsay Chichester to its statewide team of Extension educators. She will begin her new position as Carson City Extension educator Jan. 1.

“I’m thrilled,” Carson City Board of Supervisors Member Karen Abowd said about hiring Chichester. “She’s a local with a vast source of knowledge on agriculture and growing. I also appreciate that she has experience in engaging others within the community, and we look forward to that engagement.”

Party for a cause at Carson Lanes tonight: DJ Cowboy Bobby’s open dance night is raising money for a local woman with cancer. Mo’z Motley Blues returns to Living the Good Life and always kicks the weekend off right. Whiskey Tavern is where you can channel your inner diva; it’s karaoke night.

Donors sought for Celebrity Chef and Harvest Dinner fundraiser for Greenhouse Project

It’s that time of year again, when sponsors are sought to support the Celebrity Chef and Harvest Dinner, hosted by Cafe at Adele’s in Carson City and now in its sixth year.

A major donor, (composed of one donor or many) for the amount of $5,000 is still needed. The $5,000 match is collected through donations both large and small, by dinner patrons.

Carson City Mayor honored by American Planning Association

Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell was honored Sept. 15 by the Nevada Chapter of the American Planning Association with the DeBoer Award for Distinguished Leadership by an Elected Official, for his role in championing the Carson City Downtown Urban Design Streetscape Project.

Thursday procession for Carson City sheriff's deputy to move through North Carson Street

A funeral procession through Carson City for fallen Sheriff’s Deputy Carl Howell will be Thursday, 9 a.m. beginning at the Carson City Sheriff’s Office on Musser Street and will move along North Carson Street on its way to services in Reno.

The procession will be led by a fire truck that will carry Howell’s casket past the Nevada State Capitol and proceed north along Carson Street. It will meet up with a larger procession of law officers that will be staged at North Carson Street and College Parkway.

Tonight, welcome a new exhibit in the CCAI Gallery at the Courthouse: a reception for the artists of ‘Industrial Arts’ begins at 5 p.m. Meet the Journey of Hope bike riders at Western Nevada College; plenty of activities for everyone.

Celebrity Waiters Make FISH Celebration a Success

FISH, also known as Friends in Service Helping, would like to thank all the celebrity waiters and their guests who made the 2015 Have a Heart Celebration on May 16 a huge success. Community members raised over $30,000 for the human services organization. All of the donations will be used to fund FISH’s programs for the homeless and hungry, including a food bank, a family dining room, two homeless shelters, and a clinic.
