Senator Square: A symphony of students perform at UNR’s Nightingale Hall

Judges from Sacramento and the Bay Area rated this group alongside similar groups from the Reno and Sparks area.

All schools were given the same case construct and asked to create their own take on it, presenting it as an attorney and a witness would in a real court case.

Mock Trial is Law and Order set in a simulated trial environment in a real courthouse with a real judge. The Carson High School Mock Trial team will meet professional attorneys and students around the state to compete Feb. 17 in Reno.

Trump is my president. I am a citizen of the State of Nevada and I was sorry that Nevada chose to vote for Clinton. I am proud of the States that elected Trump.

We started out the school year with some amazing recruitment efforts on the part of the few returning underclassmen we had recommit to compete this year.
With our school’s annual overnight trip to Rock Creek and the first weeks of school, few competitors felt confident enough with the practice time put in to be able to successfully compete at the first tournament but we did have a small team of three ready and anxious to present to pieces for judgement.

A parade, competitions of strength and facial hair, hot air balloons, bloody marys, a carnival, pow wow, and free chili are just a few of the festivities awaiting the capital city on Saturday.
The party begins Friday this year with a ribbon cutting celebration of the 'new' downtown. The Nevada State Museum hits its 75th Anniversary this year and will have a day full of fun and surprises. The independent judges for this art show chose "80 Acres," an oil by Sally Cohen of Reno, as "Best of Show." The NAA show committee chose "The Wranglers," a mixed media painting by Glyness Miller of Carson City, for "The Spirit of Nevada" award.

Not only is the CHS National Honor Society Blood Drive coming up, Oct. 6 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the small gym, but Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval proclaimed Oct. 3-7 to be the “Week of Respect” throughout the state of Nevada.
The NCJFCJ Resolves to Reduce the Use of Solitary Confinement for Youth
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Fri, 09/16/2016 - 9:21am(Reno, Nev.) – The National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges (NCJFCJ) has released its resolution on reducing the use of solitary confinement for youth. No research exists that indicates solitary confinement reduces behavioral incidents or improves the safety of facilities. The NCJFCJ recognizes that juvenile court judges have a responsibility to care for and protect youth within their jurisdiction and therefore supports a presumptive rule or policy against solitary confinement of youth, except when absolutely necessary for the safety of the youth, others or the facility.
