In the final stretch of the work week, today is Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018. For those keeping score, there are four days of Hanukkah remaining, we are 19 days away from Christmas and 26 days until 2019. Here's what's happening today:

Though it would take some seriously intense research to prove the following, it is believed by many the Carson City community is the most supportive group of people in the country. Hyperbole, maybe, but Carson High School senior Nik Hylan, in fulfilling his graduation requirement, is asking the community to give a gift of blood and receive a free gift this holiday season.

Two Carson City jail inmates were booked Wednesday for felony charges of battery by a prisoner after video showed the men fighting, a sheriff’s deputy said.

Following are all of the entries for the 2018 Nevada Day Parade, to take place on Saturday, Oct. 27 starting at 10 a.m. The parade starts at North Carson and William streets, and ends at South Carson and Stewart streets. There are 215 entries in this year's parade.

On Monday October 8, 2018 shortly before 7:00 PM, Nevada Highway Patrol Troopers responded to a crash on Highway 50 at Highlands Drive in Mound House (between Carson City and Dayton) involving a vehicle that struck a pedestrian.

Yerington High School in Lyon County has been named one of 31 Shining Star schools recognized by the Nevada Department of Education (NDE) for achieving four- and five-star status while also serving a high percentage of students in poverty.

Today brings the second and final volunteer training event at the Nevada State Museum, morning and afternoon hikes and walks, a rally at the capital, a fundraiser at Mills Park, plenty of art exhibits and more.

A family has organized an event to support a member of their family, Jesus Perez Sanchez, who is being treated for leukemia. It will be a picnic in Mills Park on Tuesday, Sept. 18. The food will be all-Mexican and the event will run from 11 am to 7 pm. Tickets are $5, but all donations will be welcomed.

Yeah, it’s hot out there, but it’s the area happenings that are sizzling. The Carson City Fair at Fuji Park offers a plethora of entertainment for all ages including tractor pulls, a carnival, and farm animals. Under the shade of the Mills Park cottonwoods, you’ll have all day to peruse the varied vehicles in the annual Run Whatcha Brung Car Show. The sun will come out tomorrow, but it’s the stars that are coming out tonight for the free Levitt Amp Concert at the Brewery Arts Center.

Authorities have identified the suspect in custody for Sunday's shooting at a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Fallon that resulted in one dead and another injured.

One person is dead and another wounded after a shooting at a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Fallon on Sunday afternoon, Fallon Mayor Ken Tedford said.

I have long found it impossible to decide which Carson City event is my favorite: forever waffling between Nevada Day and the Taste of Downtown. Seeing as the annual parade is still months away, I’m going to side with ‘The Taste’ purely for its timeliness. With over forty local eateries participating, multiple raffles at downtown shops, and seven bands rocking every corner of the event, it’s practically impossible to have a bad time. This is going to be an epic Fathers’ Day weekend. Carson City Off-Road sponsored by Epic Rides has taken over downtown with everything mountain bike and plays host to a free Music Festival in McFadden Plaza. Don’t miss Arts and Culture Day at the Nevada State Railroad Museum with unlimited rides on the Steam Train, special vendors, and more. Stewart Indian School will be a hotspot of activity with the annual Fathers’ Day PowWow underway. This is just the tip of the iceberg, read on for more fun than you’ll know what to do with.

Carson High School graduated about 465 seniors Saturday at its Carson City football stadium.

Under sunny skies and windy conditions with C-Hill serving as a backdrop, members of the CHS Class of 2018 in words and on their mortarboards, praised their parents, families and teachers for believing in them.

Hindu mantras will open the meetings of ten city and county councils in Utah, most probably for the first time, between June four to seven, containing verses from world’s oldest existing scripture.

Western Nevada College is holding is 2018 commencement Monday, May 21 at 10 a.m. in the Marv Teixeira Pavilion, 111 E. William Street at the east end of Mills Park in Carson City.

What better way to celebrate Earth Day and Earth Week than gorgeous weather that you just can’t help but enjoy. Join Muscle Powered and our Parks and Recreation Department at the Silver Saddle Ranch for a presentation and trash mob. Kids will love the Carnival at Bordewich Elementary School, and it helps raise funds for a local Cub Scout Pack. Mark Twain Elementary is hosting their annual Color Run at Mills Park, just make sure to wear a white shirt.

We aren’t expecting any rain today, but weather control is well above my pay-grade. The recent downpour filled a few reservoirs around town, including the one at the corner of Roop Street and Little Lane.

The community is invited to sing Messiah along with choir, orchestra and world-class soloists during the live-stream Mormon Tabernacle Choir 2018 Easter Concert on Friday, March 23 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, located at 411 N. Saliman Road in Carson City.

A pre-concert feed starts at 6 p.m. The full live-stream event begins at 6:30 p.m.

Okay. This is one of the hardest weekend lists I’ve ever had to do. This dump of snow has cancelled some events, but others are in full force. Best I can tell, St. Patrick’s Day parties are not deterred by a little snowfall. There will be no parade in Virginia City, but the Rocky Mountain Oyster Fest is on. Head to downtown Carson for more green beer, Irish music, and corned beef and cabbage than you’ll know what to do with.

A 19-year-old Carson City woman was arrested early Saturday in the 3100 block of S. Edmonds Drive for suspicion of felony hit and run causing injury, driving under the influence first offense and minor consuming alcohol, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

The Needham’s return to Carson City on Wednesday, March 7. Continuing a tradition of heartfelt music, The Needhams have released their latest work Fearless, which is already a favorite among Needham fans. Fearless is comprised of ten original songs. At this concert they will also be sharing their newest musical work with us.

There is absolutely a little bit of everything this weekend. There’s somewhere to volunteer, somewhere to eat some fundraising pancakes, join in an Asian New Year Lion Dance Parade, Beer Crawl in downtown Carson City, and get your Zumba on. I think the eclectic mix of happenings is one of my favorite things about our corner of the world. Whether it’s the International Film Festival, the Vagina Monologues, or telescope viewing at the WNC Observatory: you can’t tell me there is nothing to do.

The Capital City Arts Initiative announces its exhibition, "ART from WNC," at the Community Development Building (the Brick) 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City. Eleven student artists from Western Nevada College, Carson City, have work in the exhibit. The free exhibition is available to the public now through April 12, 2018; the building is open Monday - Friday, 8am – noon, 1-4pm.

"ART from WNC" includes a wide variety of art including graphic design, drawing, photography, and watercolor painting that show the diversity of the students’ creativity.

Ready, set, crawl. The Brew Crew’s monthly pub crawl kicks off from the Laxalt Plaza next to the Nugget and includes up several downtown area taverns and restaurants. If your new year’s resolution includes volunteering, the Muscle Powered Trash Mob is a quick, but mighty, helping hand. Learn about the future of the Stewart Indian School Historic Site during an encore lecture at the Nevada State Museum. Flashback to Beatle-mania at the Brewery Arts Center or karaoke at Battleborn Social are just some of your nightlife options.
