NHP: Two fatal accidents, stabbing kept law enforcement busy during Street Vibrations

Two traffic fatalities and a stabbing kept law enforcement busy during Street Vibrations festivities in Reno, Carson City and Virginia City, the Nevada Highway Patrol and Northern Nevada public safety agencies report.

With tens of thousands motorcyclists in the region, the good news is the numbers appear to be steady over last year, the Nevada Highway Patrol says, after it increased the number of troopers on the road for public safety and traffic measures.

Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons hospitalized after horse accident (updated)

The Reno-Gazette Journal, KTVN Channel 2 Reno and even CNN reports Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons was thrown from a horse on Tuesday afternoon north of Pyramid Lake and is hospitalized at Renown Medical Center in Reno. He is said to be resting and was alert when he spoke with staff.

Update 8:40 a.m.: We talked to the governor's office, and they said Gibbons is still at Renown Medical Center, and is listed in stable condition.
Update 1:30 p.m.: According to a press statement released by the governor's staff, Gibbons broke his pelvis in at least two places. He will have surgery today.
His surgeon says this type of injury is very common when someone is thrown from a horse. His doctors say his prognosis is very good and his injuries are non-life threatening and non-life altering.
Update 9:30 p.m.: Gov. Gibbons has undergone surgery and is recuperating in the hospital.  The Governor’s pelvis was broken in several places. The surgery lasted approximately two hours. The doctor who performed the surgery noted he expects the Governor to make a full recovery.

Carson City man faces felony domestic battery charge after girlfriend treated for deep gash to head

A Carson City man faces felony domestic battery and battery with a deadly weapon charges after he allegedly hit his girlfriend, splitting the top of her head open with an unknown object, possibly a weight, which caused a five-inch gash.

Raymond Eugene Carter, 54, is being held on $35,000 bail. According to a deputy report narrative, officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of California Street on Friday at about 8:30 p.m.

Fire damages home, trailer on South Curry in Carson City

Update: A home and trailer were heavily damaged by a fire on South Curry Street in Carson City today.

Residents Kathleen Stevens and her daughter Elizabeth Nix were able to escape without injury. Firefighters rescued their dog, Thor.

"The dog is my soulmate," Nix said. "I don't know what I would do without him."

Fire crews are still on the scene, and no cause has been determined yet. The fire broke out shortly after noon. The home is located next to the Ormsby House.

Carson City man admits abusing toddler; faces felony child abuse charge

A 23-year-old Carson City man faces a felony child abuse and a gross domestic battery charge after admitting to abusing a 20-month-old toddler.
David Phillip Gawdun, who lives in the 1700 block of Russell Way, is being held on $43,132 bond in the Carson City Jail after he was arrested on Saturday. In an interview, he has admitted to slapping the girl and other instances of child abuse on the toddler and the girl's 3-year-old brother.

Investigation underway after woman dies in Carson City Jail

A woman was found dead on Sunday morning in the Carson City jail after she had been arrested on Saturday night, Sheriff Ken Furlong said.
The 23-year-old woman was arrested on a warrant from Lyon County. Her name has not been released.
Authorities had made contact with the woman and a man she was with during a domestic dispute that happened while driving, Furlong said.
The man was taken into custody on a charge of domestic battery second offense. The woman, who had the warrant, had a visible injury, including bruising and she complained of shortness of breath, Furlong said.

Carson City DA: Lengthy sentence handed down in police chase, DUI crash

A Carson City man was sentenced to nearly 21 years in prison following his April guilty plea to multiple felony charges.
According to a press statement released today by the Carson City District Attorney's Office, Orasio Gutierrez-Murillo, 26, was sentenced after he pled guilty to possession of a stolen vehicle, felony eluding a police officer, possession of a controlled substance, and driving while under the influence of methamphetamine resulting in substantial bodily injury.

Douglas County Sheriff's Office issues release in stabbing incident

On Sunday, at approximately 1:30 pm, officers of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to 1268 Esther Wy, Minden, for an unknown disturbance.
An anonymous female who resides in the neighborhood called DCSO dispatch and advised that there was some kind of disturbance occurring at 1268 Esther Wy.
Upon arrival at the location, deputies learned that 39 year-old Keith Watrous, a resident of Carson City, had entered the residence of his ex-girlfriend, 37 year-old Sabrina Pallo, without her permission.

Argument over Facebook lands Carson City couple in jail

A couple arguing over the social networking site Facebook landed the pair in jail, each facing battery charges and one facing a child endangerment charge.

Deputies were dispatched to the 3500 block of Harrison on a domestic battery call. Dispatch advised officers the reporting victim was the 17-year-old daughter of a woman who was bleeding from the face.

When deputies arrived on April 22 they located the 38-year-old male suspect in the living room of the home. The couple are engaged and live together, according to the arrest report.

Carson City man faces felony charge after throwing, strangling woman

A 35 year-old Carson City man was arrested and faces a felony charge of domestic battery after he allegedly took the mother of his children, threw her to ground, and strangled her.

The incident happened at around 3 this morning in the 2500 block of Lorraine Street after dispatch received an emergency 911 call and then a hang up. An officer was dispatched and met with the couple and one their sons. The woman explained the couple had a fight about the children and the couple's relationship with them, according to the arrest report.

NHP reports weather-related accidents in Carson City, Northern Nevada and Tahoe regions

CARSON CITY — Northern Nevada, Lake Tahoe and the capital city have seen a share of vehicle accidents largely due to weather from today's winter storm. Nevada Highway Patrol spokesman Chuck Allen reports the following:

"This morning between 6:00 and 11:00 am, troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol responded to a total of 15 accidents throughout the region. 3 accidents involved injuries while the other 12 were property damage only.
