Carson City school bus clips SUV, no injuries reported

A Carson City School bus was involved in a minor accident Monday afternoon. No children aboard the bus were injured. the driver of the SUV that was clipped by the bus said she was shaken up but not injured.
The accident happened at the intersection of Nevada and Long streets. It was reported at 2:29 p.m. The children were transferred to another bus as officers investigated the accident scene. The bus had some minor damage to the front bumper. The SUV had some damage to its rear side.

Photos released of Carson City Wells Fargo bank robbery suspect

The following is from Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong: At approximately 9:08 a.m. Monday the Carson City Sheriff’s Office was informed of a bank robbery at the Wells Fargo Bank located at the corner of Stewart and Musser Streets in downtown Carson City. The suspect was described as a white male adult, approximately 30 years old, 5 foot 6 inches tall, wearing blue jeans and a black (or dark) hoody.

Suspects in Carson City Wells Fargo bank robbery tied to Reno bank robberies

UPDATE 7:17PM: Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said the two suspects captured after this morning's Wells Fargo bank robbery may be tied to a Nevada State Bank robbery in Reno. The two men, Kenneth Wayne Young, 44, and Michael Lee Smith, 36, are leaving Carson City Jail and will be booked and arraigned in federal court.

Carson City authorities make arrest in U.S. Bank robbery

A 46-year-old Carson City man who had served time in prison for bank robbery, faces federal charges in connection with Monday's hold up of the U.S. Bank in North Carson City.
Thomas E. Baye was arrested Monday night after authorities found items in his home that directly associated him with the robbery, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

NHP: 84 crashes investigated, 23 arrests during the Street Vibrations event

The annual 2011 Street Vibrations motorcycle event created a lot of traffic on northern Nevada roadways resulting in numerous service calls for troopers with the Nevada Highway Patrol. Additional troopers were placed on duty throughout the entire event in an effort to create a highly visible presence on our area’s highways and to handle the anticipated larger volume of calls for service.

Nevada Highway Patrol busy over Labor Day weekend

The Labor Day holiday weekend produced a high volume of traffic on northern Nevada highways resulting in a large number of calls for service. During the three-day weekend, nineteen people were arrested in the Reno-Sparks area with fifteen of those arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Troopers assigned to the Carson City area logged 3 DUI arrests. The DUI arrest activity for Lovelock, Fernley, Fallon and Hawthorne was not available this morning.

Nevada Highway Patrol keeps busy with winter storm

With falling and blowing snow throughout Northern Nevada earlier today, troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol were kept busy by responding to several calls for service this morning, Trooper Chuck Allen reports.

In a six-hour timeframe between 4 am to 10 am, 19 motor vehicle accidents were investigated, 17 slides-offs or spin-outs were reported and the Department of Public Safety-Communications Center fielded 298 phone calls.

Firefighters knock down two homes on fire in Carson City neighborhood; dogs rescued

Update: 5:11 p.m.: A fire truck reportedly had some damage from an accident that happened during the initial call. No injuries reported. Remaining fire units will continue to clean up hot spots around the fires and will probably be there for another 30 minutes. Fire investigators are now trying to determine what caused the fire that ignited two homes this afternoon.
