Writing coach offers week-long sessions at Carson City's Empire Elementary

Children’s Author Gary Hogg will visit all classrooms K-5 to model a 45-minute writing lesson for teachers and students alike.
Carson City area Red Hat Society bring holiday gifts, cheer to Richards Crossing residents

Carson City Parks and Rec leads Interpretive Holiday Hike; next hike on Jan. 5

Wrapping up the Friends of Silver Saddle Ranch’s Holiday Open House, our group of about 20 hikers ventured out and explored parts of the Mexican Ditch and River Trails.

Food Pantry seeks gifts for Stagecoach, Silver Springs children and seniors
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Fri, 12/07/2018 - 10:33pmDecember 21 is the Silver Stage Food Pantry’s fifth annual “Shopping with the Elves” event. From 1-5 p.m., parents who are guests of the Food Pantry can shop for gifts for their children.
The event includes a chance for children to visit with Santa and have holiday refreshments while their parents shop. The Pantry is in need of gifts for ages infant to 18 years.
Home-bound Seniors: The Pantry also welcomes donations of gifts for seniors. They deliver baskets and gifts to 40 home-bound elders, and sing carols to them as well.
Dayton Food Pantry in need of hams, sleeping bags during holidays

It is also the 6th annual Project Empty Bowls at Carson Mall, which has become a local soup for the soul favorite stop.

Carson City's Project Empty Bowls features hot soups, holiday entertainment, auction and more

This Friday, the all-you-can-eat fundraiser returns, this time at the Carson Mall, with an array of holiday entertainment, an auction, raffle and more to go along with delicious, savory and soothing hot soup delights.
The event runs from 4 to 8 p.m. inside the Carson Mall's north entrance.

Community helps Dayton Food Pantry reach its Thanksgiving goals

“I can't thank everyone enough. During November, the community helped the Pantry reach 1,250 people who needed food," said Pantry manager Alie Trier.

With steady rain in the city early this morning, slushy snow in the foothills and heavy snow in the Sierra, we are on our way to winter even though it is still technically fall. It sure is beginning to look like Christmas, especially as we head into the weekend, with Friday's Silver and SnowFlakes Festival of Lights at the capitol and Saturday's downtown Holiday Crawl.
Letter to the Editor: A reminder that restaurant management reflects the business

The manager and the serving employees are the face of the business to their clients that patronize the food establishment. Management can make or break a business.
