Christmas village brings cheer

More than 20 years ago Karen Lantz-Feith, who was living in New York at the time, received an ornamental building as a Christmas present from her sister.
While she appreciated the gift, she didn't consider the replica of New York City's Chocolate Shoppe to be anything more than a holiday ornament.

Outdoors with Don Q: Merry Christmas to everyone

In what has become a family tradition of many years, the entire Quilici family is planning to spend part of the Christmas holiday at their cabin, which is located at an elevation of 6,000 feet on a steep mountainside between the City of Portola and Davis Lake in Northern California.

What makes this location so special at this time of the year is that Plumas County does not plow the gravel road to the cabin when it snows.

When the countryside is covered with a layer of deep snow, we have to hike in on our snowshoes while towing a sled full of “goodies.”

Snow expected to arrive in Carson City today

Nevada Highway Patrol offers travel and safety tips for Christmas holiday motorists

With Christmas and New Years Day each falling on a Tuesday this year, most families may be planning one or both holidays into a four-day event and traveling out of the area or staying near home and celebrating locally. Long holiday weekends generally means more motorists traveling on our state’s roadways thus increasing the calls for service for our agency. Please assist us with our highway safety efforts this holiday season by always driving with safety in mind first, being courteous to others motorists, and never drink and drive.

Celebrate a Rockin’ Apocalypse Friday at Café at Adele’s

Café at Adele’s in Carson City hosts a Rockin’ Apocalypse Party, Friday with live music by The Mighty Surf Lords.

“Someone posted a picture of a bunch of alpacas in a field with a message about celebrating the ‘Alpacalypse’ and I thought, ‘Well maybe we should,’” said Charlie Abowd, Café at Adele’s chef and co-owner. “There has been a lot of stress and heartbreak this year and it is healthy at times to come together with good music and community to celebrate our blessings rather than continuing the fear.”

Mark Twain’s Christmas Wish

Envying The Fun In The Editor's Office

The editor must have been enjoying some holiday cheer. Sometimes I envy the guy, he sure has a fun job. Consider the last few postings. 1. ...and deservedly so! | Carson City Nevada News - Carson Now http://carsonnow.org/reader-content/11/23/2012/and-deservedly-so  Absolutely right. As the author says, there is no cure for willful ignorance. Before I give in to the temptation of pointing to this letter as one obvious illustration of that dictum, let me ask the following questions:

Carson City skates into the holiday season at Arlington Square Ice Rink

Carson City teens, little ones and families by the dozens turned a black Friday into a perfectly crystal clear opening day of skating at Arlington Square Ice Rink.
Kicking off its third season, the rink at corner of North Robinson and Carson Street across from the Carson Nugget has become a Carson City favorite holiday feature. By 4 p.m. more than 150 skaters had signed in as part of Family Skate Day, said Brady Roser, recreation supervisor for Arlington Square.
"There's been a lot of excitement for us to open and we're seeing it today," said Roser.
