This month, Todd Morgan & the Emblems return for a third season and historian Dr. Michael Fischer will speak on the history of the Nevada Buckaroo at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park.

Carson City’s own Shoe Tree Brewing Company will be hosting a show-and-beer-release party on July 20 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Popular punk band The Lucky Eejits will be headlining the show along with a release of “The Lucky Eegits out of Time Beer” release.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events and activities around the Carson City region to help the next three days breeze by. On Friday, Muscle Powered will host a morning walk at the Carson City Multi-Use Path at 8 a.m. And there's coin press demonstrations at the Nevada State Museum.

Good times, sunny skies, activities and more are planned around the Carson City area as we head into Thursday, July 11. The Carson City Fair is returning for its third year this month, and it’s bringing big changes and several new events to its roster including a demolition derby, American Ninja Farmer contests, jello eating contests, animal auctions, and more.

On Thursday July 11 at 6:30 p.m., the Douglas County Historical Society will be continuing its Heritage Lecture Series with a history presentation titled, “A Sentimental Journey Along Highway 395.”

The presentation will be made by local author, historian and Douglas County Historical Society member David Woodruff.

CARSON CITY — Attendees at the Largest Political Collectibles Show and Sale in the West will not only see a cross-section of national political memorabilia, but also have an opportunity to see rare political items from Nevada.

The Nevada State Railroad Museum steamed up the Fourth of July festivities in Carson City on Friday.

The Fourth of July will be colored with parades, barbecues, carnivals, concerts and plenty of fireworks around Carson City, Carson Valley, Lake Tahoe and Virginia City.

Chautauquan Kim Harris will portray Lizzie A. Borden on Wednesday, July 10, at 6:30 p.m., and historian Mark McLaughlin will speak on “Lake Tahoe and the Comstock Era; Stories, Facts and Fun” on Saturday, July 13, at 10 a.m., at Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park.

Wylie Animal Rescue Foundation (WARF) is hosting a casual al fresco Yappy Hour on Tuesday, July 9, from 4-6 PM at Genoa’s Sierra Chef. The popular catering company and cooking school will be providing delicious complimentary nibbles and wine and beer will be available for purchase in keepsake WARF glasses. Canine companions are invited to attend. WARF is raising awareness about its new Animal Sanctuary under construction in Stagecoach. Yappy Hour is open to the public and admission is free.

If you grew up here in the capital of Carson City there’s a 99 percent chance you at one point said “there’s just nothing to do here.”

But the truth is, Carson City as both a historic state capital and an outdoor recreational hub, has a lot to offer — especially so for visitors.

Heading into Father’s Day weekend, there's plenty of jam-packed activities around the Carson City region. There's Flag Day ceremonies at the Nevada Veterans Memorial and at the Elks Lodge. The Stewart Father’s Day Powwow happens Friday to Sunday and features hundreds of American Indian dancers, drummers artists and cultural enthusiasts. Lace up the tennis shoes for the Eastside Historical tour of the capital city hosted by Muscle Powered. Journey of Hope returns to Western Nevada College at 5 p.m. to settle into the evening. Open Mic Night at A to Zen will cap-off an eventful Friday heading into the weekend.

Hundreds of American Indian dancers, drummers, artists, craftsmen and cultural enthusiasts will converge on Carson City the weekend of June 14-16 for the annual Stewart Indian School Father’s Day Powwow.

Heading into Thursday, May 30, 2019, you can take a bike ride with local dignitaries or stroll through the capital grounds. If you're a job seeker there's an employment fair at Max Casino. Join us on our free leader-led hikes each week to enjoy Nevada outdoors! We have moved the Spooner Lake Hike on Thursday, May 30, 3:00 pm to the Wild Horse Trail, in Carson City.

The conditions at Spooner Lake this week will be cold and wet so we are moving Thursday's hike "down to the valley" and will be hiking at Centennial Park on the Wild Horse Trail. This trail starts behind the ballfields at Centennial Park. Drive all the way to the back of ballfields on Heritage Way where the trail starts. Water and sturdy closed-toe shoes required. Hat, sunscreen and hiking poles recommended.

Two families of rural Nevada business leaders, two longtime state officials who have helped save numerous historic treasures, and an organization dedicated to rescuing Nevada women from obscurity recently became the inaugural recipients of the Preserve Nevada Awards for contributions to historic preservation.

The weekend is at our doorstep as we head into Friday, May 10, 2019. Even though forecasters say we may have showers this weekend, the cool spring rain won't dampen the fun. We have a bevy of activities lined up Friday including the opening of the Transcontinental Railroad exhibit at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, day 1 of the two-day Mother's Day Plant Sale hosted by The Greenhouse Project, RSVP's Spring Celebration and Carnival at Mills Park, a day hike, art showings, live music and more.

Heading into Thursday, May 9, 2019 we're looking at a few showers and partly sunny skies around Carson City. The event lineup features the RSVP Spring Celebration and Carnival kickoff and family night at Mills Park, a Healthy Communities event in Silver Springs, CASA volunteer information hour workshop, an afternoon hike along the Ash Canyon trail, art demonstrations, live music and more. CARSON CITY — Since the early 1980s, May has been a month for celebrating historic preservation and archaeology in Nevada. This May, the Nevada Department of Conservation & Natural Resources’ State Historic Preservation Office encourages Nevadans to explore and discover the amazing historic and archeological resources that exist throughout the State.

Kicking off its 2019 season, V&T Railway will hold a special Mother’s Day train on Saturday, May 11 and Sunday, May 12. Guests will experience a 24-mile round-trip ride through the historic Comstock, departing Carson City (Eastgate Depot) at 10 a.m. and will arrive in Virginia City at approximately 11:30 a.m., before returning to Carson at 4:15 p.m.

The National Association of Agriculture Educators is hosting a “National Teach Ag” campaign to encourage school-based agriculture programs and address the national demand for agriculture teachers. Mr. Charles Mann, Agriculture Science teacher at Carson High School, was 1 of 5 teachers chosen to be featured as a national spotlight.

April was an action packed month as several Carson High School clubs put on The Friendship Ball, A Night Under the Big Top Father Daughter Ball, and The Greatest Show on Earth 2019 Prom. Even more amazing than the dances are the students behind the scenes who, with the guidance of Leadership Adviser Ann Britt and FBLA Adviser Angila Golik, transformed the CHS Big Gym so that all visitors, young and old alike, would think they had walked into a beautiful dream.

CARSON CITY — Wetlands are the link between land and water — where the flow of water, the cycling of nutrients, and the energy of the sun meet to create highly productive ecosystems with unique plant and animal life.

In recognition of American Wetlands Month in May, the Nevada Natural Heritage Program, within the Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, is providing education on the vital importance of wetlands to Nevada’s ecological, economic, and social health.
