Nevada Day 2014: 25th Annual Nevada Day Classic Run/Walk

More than 400 runners and walkers of all shapes and sizes — and even attire — hit the streets of Carson City every year for the annual Nevada Day Classic 8K Run and 2 Mile Run/Walk. The event, organized by the Tahoe Mountain Milers running club and its members in cooperation with many sponsors has supported many community organizations over the years. This year’s event will benefit Guide Dogs for the Blind.

The Annual Garden Tour put on by the Carson City Historical Society is a fundraiser for the completion of the Carriage House at the Foreman-Roberts House 1207 N Carson St.

Agriculture Renaissance: Students Grow Through The Greenhouse Project

Make time to visit The Greenhouse Project and a few things come clear: Agriculture is, after nearly 15 years defunct, alive and well on Carson High School’s campus, and the student population whose class time is integrated here, are developing life skills that will serve them in future, while currently realizing they have a hand in making a difference in their community.

Carson Chamber Home and Garden Show comes to Carson Mall on Saturday

This is the second year the Carson City Chamber of Commerce has organized a Home & Garden Show to showcase the many businesses that can help homeowners improve their homes and gardens.

This Saturday, April 20th, Greenhouse Garden Center will again take center stage showcasing their expertise and creativeness in creating a unique garden setting that only the professionals at Greenhouse can create. Owner David Ruf and staff will be on hand to conduct informative seminars as well.

Chamber Home and Garden Show comes to Carson Mall April 20

For the second year, the Carson City Chamber will be putting on their successful Home and Garden Show at the Carson Mall giving area and regional residents a chance to know local businesses and learn what’s new in home and gardening.

Twenty-five vendors are set to display their goods and services with Costco, Home Depot and Greenhouse Garden Center taking the center stage as they create vignettes to show what can be done to improve home and garden. The free event runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Boutique opens to benefit four-legged homeless friends

On Saturday, Dec. 15, Pet Network Humane Society, officially opened their Second Chance Consignment Boutique at 2578 S. Curry Street south of Greenhouse Garden Center in Carson City.
Sales go to benefit the Pet Network Humane Society headquartered at Incline Village. Pet Network works closely with the Carson City Animal Shelter to save pets headed for euthansia. Donations of gently used clothing appreciated.

Build a Fairy Garden at Greenhouse Garden Center

Release your world of fantasy and imagination by attending a Fairy Garden Workshop at the Greenhouse Garden Center. This workshop will give guests a tutorial on building their very own Fairy Garden, in only a small patch of space of a container. This creation will be a great accessory to herb gardens or along side a row of plants, and is perfect for all ages.
The cost to attend the workshop is $6. Guests are welcome to bring their own containers or purchase one at the Greenhouse Garden Center, along with Fairy Garden accessories. Refreshments will be provided.

Carson City Historical Society Garden Tour with Capitol Tree Walk

Join us for the Carson City Historical Society's Annual Garden Tour, this year featuring a Tree Walk of our Capitol Grounds by Tom Henderson of Healthy Trees. Visit 10 private gardens, talk with their gardeners, and enjoy exclusive access to the new Greenhouse at Carson High School. At 4:30pm we'll "Put the garden tour to bed" with wine, refreshments, and a talk by Joanne Skelly. The day is complete with demonstrations by artists at the historic Foreman-Roberts House, and plants & starts from the Mark Twain Garden Club.

Open House at Carson City AAA on Friday to benefit Special Olympics

In the spirit of teamwork and goodwill, AAA continues its steadfast tradition to civic involvement by hosting on May 18 an open house designed to benefit Special Olympics in its south Carson City office.

The event, which is slated from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., includes a silent auction, special insurance counseling, travel advice as well as ample refreshments. Proceeds from the silent auction with items ranging from a glider plane ride to a round of golf will be earmarked for the Special Olympics of Nevada.

Do you have apples ripening on your tree? A local group of volunteer fruit foragers would love to come by and pick the ripening fruit. The Fruit Barons harvest unclaimed fruit and donate surplus to a number of local organizations. This year they will also recover apples to make cider for a social event hosted by Healthy Trees. Persons with ripening fruit can bring in their own apples or call the Fruit Barons at 220-6330 or 224-3827, who will donate some of the apples for a cider-making event to be held on Saturday, 5 November, 10 a.m., at 2578 South Curry Street, #5, in Carson City.

Junk the Junipers Event

As a part of Wildfire Awareness Week, May 1-8, 2011, a free event called Junk the Junipers, will take place on Saturday, May 7, 2011, from 8:30 a.m to 1 p.m. After removing the ornamental junipers from their homes, residents may bring them to the event site located at the south end of the Galaxy Theater parking lot. In exchange, residents will receive a coupon from Greenhouse Garden Center (valid throughout May) for a free #5 replacement plant *OR* 50 percent discount on up to 10 shrubs or perennials, limit one per household.

Mile High-Carson High Jazz Extravaganza

It's "big-band jazz times two" when the Mile High Jazz Band presents the eighth annual Mile High-Carson High Jazz Extravaganza, on Friday, January 21, 2011, 8:00 p.m., at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King Street, Carson City. The concert, sponsored by the Brewery Arts Center and the Mile High Jazz Band Association, is a benefit for the Carson High Jazz Band programs.

Carson City Arbor Day 2010 Celebration

The Carson City Shade Tree Council will be hosting its annual Arbor Day Celebration on April 30, 2010. The celebration will be held in the park across from the State Library on the corner of Stewart and Musser Streets and will begin at 5:30 p.m. and is scheduled to last an hour.
