Major flooding from run-off west of Curry Street in South Carson City has resulted in some damage to the Nevada State Railroad Museum property, said NSRM Curator of History Wendell Huffman.

The more adventurous of you will be participating in the Be Bold, Run in the Cold ‘Run with Rudolph’ 5/10K near Western Nevada College. Celebrate a Country Christmas with Mary Kaye and the Kaye Sisters in Genoa or get your Celtic fix at the Brewery Art Center with a performance by County Clarke. I’m not trying to rush you, but the holidays season approaches. As such, the holiday craft fairs, bazaars, and bake sales have arrived. You may as well start looking at that gift list to see who would enjoy something one-of-a-kind and locally crafted. If not for gift giving, these fairs are an excellent way to find fun ways to decorate your home. Other than that, the weekend is kind of quiet, but you'll want take a look at the list and see what catches your fancy.

The parade is coming on the new main street of downtown Carson City no less. It's Your City host Cortney Bloomer talks about the Nevada Day Parade, festivities and more with Janet Baker, president of Nevada Day, Inc.

This edition of It's Your City with Cortney Bloomer features Sue Merriwether, Carson City Clerk-Recorder. The two discuss the upcoming election, registration deadlines, and early voting ballots. Tuesday, Oct. 18 is the last day to register to vote.

UPDATE 8PM: The Shooting Fire is 40 percent contained with eyes on all fire lines from multiple fire agencies, said Carson City Fire Department spokeswoman Stacey Belt. Mapping has the fire size to be between 200 to 300 acres, she said. Several fire crews will remain on scene to close the containment gap.

UPDATE 4:33PM: Curry Street is now open. Firefighters continue to attack the Shooting Fire via helicopters. The fire has quieted down since it became active earlier this afternoon, according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch. So far around 200 acres have burned. The fire is moving in a southerly direction.

UPDATE 4:05PM: Carson City Fire Department reports that evacuations have been lifted for the Shooting Fire in the Carson Colony area west of Curry Street in southwest Carson City. The fire is at around 200 acres in size and is burning away from structure, according to Stacey Belt, public information officer for Carson City Fire Department. No structures were burned however a fence was destroyed. No injuries have been reported.

UPDATE: 3:10PM: The Shooting Fire is now at around 100 acres, and no structures have been damaged or destroyed, according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center. As of around 3 p.m. the fire was moving away from the threatened neighborhoods along the Carson Colony area west of Curry Street. No injuries have been reported. The air attack on the fire continues.

Ta-Hoe Nalu Paddle Festival returns to King Beach for the weekend. The Annual Jazz and Beyond Music Festival has infiltrated the whole valley with musicians. Carson City residents Matthew Bartak and Teak Dopf have got inertia down to a science. They haven't stopped moving since the first time they touched a set of wheels.

They've ridden bikes, skateboards, scooters and skates. They loved them all so much that the two friends became partners in a business two years ago that took their passion for riding to another level.

The school year is winding down, which usually means the activities and excitement around Carson High amp up in direct proportion. There is also much nailbiting and desperate prayers as freshmen and sophomores take their End of Course exams, juniors and seniors finish taking their AP exams, and finals approach for all students.

The changing of the monthly guard is happening. The first of May is Sunday and Mother’s Day is just around the corner. Music, theater, sports, shopping and more will be abundant in the valley this weekend, so make sure to take a good look at this weekend’s list for all of your fun options.
