Western Nevada College hosts Dia de los Muertos event Thursday to share Latino culture with community

Carson City’s Western Nevada College Campus hosted a Dia de los Muertos event in honor of the Day of the Dead in the Bristlecone building Thursday.

In addition to traditional altar displays, children from the WNC daycare and preschool attended and played games such as Mexican Bingo as seen in the first photo, put on by the Latino Outreach Program.

Time Passages: Singer, songwriter Al Stewart to perform two shows at Carson Nugget

British singer, songwriter, folk and rock musician Al Stewart will perform two shows at the Carson Nugget in Carson City on Nov. 10.

Stewart is best known for his 1976 hit single "Year of the Cat" the title song from the platinum album of the same name. Though Year of the Cat and its 1978 platinum follow-up, Time Passages, brought Stewart his biggest worldwide commercial successes, earlier albums such as Past, Present and Future from 1973 are often seen as better examples of his intimate brand of historical folk-rock, a style to which he returned in later albums.

Irish Folk Singer Seamus Kennedy Plays Great Basin Brewery in Sparks

The Sons & Daughters of Erin, are holding a benefit concert featuring Irish folk singer Seamus Kennedy on Monday, September 10 at Great Basin Brewery in Sparks.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. for those wanting to order food from the brewery menu (corned beef and cabbage will be available) and then concert will start at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $25 for non members and $20 for SADOE members and food is not included. Tickets may be purchased online through BrownPaperTickets.com or in person at Brewery in Sparks. There will be up to a $2 service fee per ticket on any credit card transaction.
