It is also International Walk to School Day, so be prepared to see a lot more school children walking with their parents and friends to school along sidewalks and crossing streets. Among other featured events include the launch of "Trailblazing Nevada,” a new museum experience inside Battle Born Hall at the Nevada State Capitol, a fundraiser at Firehouse Subs for a Carson City cancer patient, a GOP open house, a talk about climate change at WNC and more.

The next Wired Wednesday workshop will be Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 6:30 p.m. at Paradise Salons, 3430 Executive Pointe Way, Carson City.

American Flat remembered at Saturday film, photo show and lecture

The event includes three parts – a screening of a new documentary that covers the history of the American Flat mill from its inception in the 1920s to its demolition in 2014; a short lecture about the unique qualities of the mill by consulting architectural historian and industrial archaeologist Ron Reno, PhD; and a pop-up show with locals’ rare photos of the site.

The National Weather Service says there's a 30 percent chance today and 70 percent chance Wednesday. Good news for our rather parched city. Among today's featured events are a morning walk and evening hike, a Pony Express celebration in Silver Springs, a viewing of the Hitchcock classic "Rear Window" and more.

Don’t worry, you’ve still got four months for your holiday shopping, but Santa needs to hire a few helpers. The annual Polar Express on the V & T is getting ready to steam up and they are auditioning for elves etc. to lend a hand. The Nevada Arts Council has a new exhibit featuring Basque artwork; attend this evening’s artist reception to learn more about these unusual carvings. The ESL at Home program works quietly behind the scenes to bring better English language skills to non-native speakers.

Hopefest8 at the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center is a free concert featuring folk/pop singer, Tyrone Wells, bringing awareness and raising funds for local patient resources. The grand prize of their raffle is a brand-new car, so good luck. It’s a birthday bash at Living the Good Life. Two full days of features, documentaries, and short films with music as the uniting theme will be shown at the Carson City Community Center: 30 unique titles representing 29 different filmmakers from countries around the world. Blood Drum Spirit, a jazz band with an African influence, is the focus of one of those films and will be performing for free at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint this evening.
