CARSON CITY — The Nevada Arts Council announced Friday the awarding of more than $1 million in statewide grants to 172 recipients ranging from individual artists to nonprofit organizations and public institutions for the 2020 fiscal year.

A classic film, cowboy poetry and western music in mid-July at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park in Carson Valley. On Thursday, July 18, at 6:30 pm, train expert Jim Clark will introduce and provide commentary on the 1926 film The General.

Wall-E, the beloved Pixar film, will be showing for free for a Movie in the Park in Silver City this Saturday.

This family-friendly movie will begin after dark.

Movie-goers can bring lawn chairs or sit on the grass to view.

The park is located just off of 4th street in Silver City. There are no bathroom facilities at the park so plan accordingly!

As we go forward and move ahead into Tuesday, July 2, 2019 we're looking at another sunny day, all the better as we prepare to celebrate Independence Day. Are you ready for July 4 fireworks at Mills Park? As a Tuesday warmup, get the heart pumping during Muscle Powered's three fitness outings. Plus there's art showings, hands-on science activities in Silver City, an evening archery shoot, a viewing of the 1953 film "From Here to Eternity" at the Brewery Arts Center hosted by the Carson City Classic Cinema Club and more. With a windy cool down headed our way, activities around the Carson City area Wednesday, June 26 will make for a breezy good time. Looking at the day ahead there's a walk hosted by parks and recreation, kids events, Wheeled Food Wednesday at the Brewery Arts Center, a free "rough cut" feature film screening at the Carson Nugget, Young Chautauquans at Dangberg Historic Park and more.

Wired Wednesday will meet at Carson Nugget, Wednesday, June 26 at 6:30 p.m. in Banquet Hall C upstairs. All ages are welcome, however this film would be potentially Rated R due to language, violence and an off camera scene that is heard but not seen.

Paws what you’re doing and mark your calendar for Friday, June 21, 5 and 6:30 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center. Students with the Carson City School District, in partnership with the Wild Horse Children’s Theater, will debut their Summer Theater Camp’s adaptation of Disney’s "101 Dalmatians, Kids." Admission to the play is free of charge; however, donations will be accepted.

Heading into Tuesday, June 18, 2019 we're looking at continued warming around the region with a daytime high around 91. Temperatures are expected to actually lower toward the end of the week. Events around town Tuesday include a Muscle Powered walk, hike and bike ride, yoga, exercises for the mind and body hosted by the Carson City Emblem Club, political gatherings, art activities and more.

Wheeled Food Wednesday is back! The BAC will be hosting food trucks every Wednesday this summer, starting June 19th and going until September 19th! The trucks will start serving at 5:30pm and go until 8:00pm. There will be a wide variety of food trucks, so everyone will be able to find something they love. There will be kid’s activities—including a bounce house—and performances from different musicians throughout the year.

The talented and friendly Andrew Sullivan is coming to the Brewery Arts Center’s Performance Hall on May 25 at 7 p.m. to play a live show for Carson City. Come hear him play his great songs like “Where You Are,” and “Chickens in the Yard” and see why his fans are joining “The Chicken Club.”

Wired Wednesday presents Starting from Scratch: making a short film. Are you, or someone you know, interested in making short films?

Coming Tuesday, May 7 our first in a series of “How To” talks, will be 12 steps to making a short film, as well as competition and challenge basics.
