Jukebox International Film Festival returns to Carson City in August
Jukebox International Film Festival, the only event of its kind to feature films that have music only as a central driving theme, is proud to announce the Official Selections that will be screening this year in Carson City on August 23-24, 2018.
The festival has also recently announced a new venue, the Bob Boldrick Theater located inside the Carson City Community Center. JIFF is presented in partnership with Jazz & Beyond, a month-long music festival that takes place in Carson City every August and is now in their 15th year.
“We’ve selected 20 films across our four main categories: feature narratives and documentaries, and short narratives and documentaries. In the 5th category, music videos, we’re presenting a total of 10,” said Darla Bayer, the Festival Director.
In all, JIFF is screening 30 unique titles representing 29 different filmmakers from countries around the world, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, Cuba, the Republic of Estonia, France, Greece, Ireland, the Republic of Korea, the U.K., the U.S and Venezuela. Over half of the filmmakers are making the trek from their home countries to attend the film festival.
Among the films to be screened, there will be 7 World Premieres and 4 U.S. Premieres. “The filmmakers have honored us by turning down other film festivals with dates before ours in order to allow us these exclusive premieres,” adds Bayer from her Carson City office. “Because we focus on music-themed films only, we understand each other better, and we can give them a more meaningful premiere than most mainstream festivals.”
In addition to presenting the film lineup, JIFF will be offering hands-on workshops through the Brewery Arts Center, a local arts organization, featuring visiting bands and musicians from the very films they will be screening. Some of the visiting bands have also been booked into local clubs to play during non-festival hours.
