New artists lineup up for 2015 SnowGlobe Music Festival in South Lake Tahoe

The SnowGlobe Music Festival announced additional artists to its fifth anniversary countdown to New Year's lineup, held over three days in South Lake Tahoe, Dec. 29 to New Year's Eve.

Hosted in the heart of South Lake Tahoe, the high-energy hip hop and EDM music festival offers more than 50 world-class artists performing on multiple stages and culminating in an impressive firework show.

University of Nevada, Reno designated a bicycle-friendly campus

The League of American Bicyclists has recognized the University of Nevada, Reno with a bronze level designation as a Bicycle Friendly University. The University joins 127 other colleges and universities across 42 states and Washington, D.C. to receive this designation for 2015.

John Tyson to bring cowboy music, poetry tonight to Gold Hill Hotel lecture series

VIRGINIA CITY — Local celebrity and cowboy music performer John Tyson will bring his “American Cowboy” show back to the Gold Hill Hotel on Thursday, Nov. 12.

Tyson, a Vietnam veteran, has worked as a law enforcement officer, range manager, working cowboy, train engineer, entertainer and journalist. He is best known regionally as a former reporter for KOLO-TV Channel 8. But he is also well known for his cowboy songs and poetry, and stories about cowboys of the Old West.

Nevada Writers Hall of Fame to honor Carson City area author Ellen Hopkins

The 28th annual Nevada Writers Hall of Fame welcomes inductee, Ellen Hopkins, author of 11 bestselling novels, numerous stories and more than 20 children’s nonfiction titles. Mark Maynard, author of “Grind,” and Laura McBride, author of “We Are Called to Rise,” will be awarded with the 2015 Silver Pen.

Rowan Brothers return to Carson City Sept. 24, on the Veranda at Cafe at Adele’s in what is becoming something of an annual tradition. The music starts at 6 p.m.

Each year about this time, Lorin Rowan and Chris Rowan bring patrons an evening of music that includes both new and old original songs and an array of everything from rock and pop to Americana and bluegrass.
Well versed in many genres and presented accoustically with beautiful harmonies, an evening with The Rowans is always a delight.

“This is something we always look forward to,” Lorin said.

Friday lineup: Carson City Jazz festival features Count Basie tribute among 3 venues

Jazz & Beyond, Carson City Music Festival, continues on today, Friday, with three free events. The main, special event is the Count Basie 111th Birthday Bash, 8 to 10 p.m., on the Third Street Stage between Carson and Curry Streets in Carson City.

The Music Festival began in 2004 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of William "Count" Basie, Aug. 21, 1904-April 26, 1984.

Jazz and Beyond festival in Carson City gets busy Thursday with three venues

Virginia City, Genoa and Incline Village on the shores of Lake Tahoe have been selected among Nevada's 10 most unique towns in the online publication the culturetrip.com.

Noting Nevada is the seventh largest state by area, the website describes the Silver State comes with a "great deal of open space, varying landscapes, and many small towns dotting the terrain." The CultureTrip.com website has previously featured Carson City and Virginia City area landmarks, museums and restaurants as unique or must-see stops for travelers.

Genoa Cowboy Festival dates secured for April 30 to May 2

The sixth annual Genoa Cowboy Festival will be held April 30 to May 2 in the Town of Genoa, Nev. Previous Cowboy Festivals have attracted thousands of visitors to the picturesque community located in the eastern foothills of the Sierra Nevada.

Genoa, widely recognized as Nevada’s oldest town, is a short 45-minute drive south from Reno and in close proximity to South Lake Tahoe.

Men Of Worth to play at the BAC March 13

Men of Worth was formed in 1986 by Scotsman Donnie Macdonald and Irishman James Keigher who came together to perform Irish and Scottish folk music, combining traditional and contemporary styles.

What Works: Not all who wander are lost

I spent last Saturday and Sunday at Wanderlust, an amazing yoga, music, and meditation festival held at Squaw Valley each year. I feel blessed to live in Carson City and able to access festivals like this. People fly in from all over the nation to attend Wanderlust and I get to drive up and bliss out during the day and then sleep in my own comfy bed at night.

Going to this festival each year always adds tools to my toolkit, which I give freely to my clients and to you, my dear readers, today.

Carson City Library to host Spokes America 2014

Carson City Library will host the 2014 Spokes team Monday as they ride through town. The group of seven students and alumni from Harvard, MIT, and Columbia are biking from San Francisco to Washington, D.C.

Spokes America is a bike trip across the United States designed to make STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) accessible to students everywhere. The Spokes team will be at the Carson City Library with plans to run a “Learning Festival” during their June 16 visit.

Three-day Lit Fest kicks off Friday in Carson City

Nevada writer Ellen Hopkins has appeared at book and literary festivals around the country since the publication of her young-adult novel "Crank" 10 years ago, followed by nearly a dozen more books.

This year she asked herself, "Why not here?" meaning Carson City and a book celebration.
