Carson City area weather: Another system to bring snow to Sierra and valley floor Sunday
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 12/11/2015 - 5:44pmAnother winter storm is on the way bringing strong and gusty winds and a brief period of moderate to heavy snow on Sunday in the Sierra and then falling to the valley floor into Carson City by Sunday night.
Winds will begin to increase late Saturday night with the strongest winds anticipated Sunday morning and early afternoon, according to the National Weather Service, which which has posted a Wind Advisory and Winter Weather Advisory for the Carson City region and a Winter Storm Warning for the Sierra and Lake Tahoe.

Most small businesses can only afford one bookkeeper who "does it all." Unfortunately, that is how embezzlement most likely occurs. One person with no oversight or accountability, having access to all books, records, bank accounts, blank checks, etc. That's a big temptation for some folks.

With 8 degree mornings, the higher lakes are now beginning to freeze over. I prefer to wait until a lake has a minimum of 8 to 10 inches of ice on it before I venture out, even though statistics and various websites may say different.

Snow is expected to arrive in the Sierra by Sunday morning, with rain and snow showers around Carson City by Sunday night.

Recovery continues: Carson City unemployment falls to 6.8 percent in September

In August, unemployment in Carson City was 7.1 percent. The month's figures count for an additional 200 jobs over-the-year, officials note.
The statewide seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for September registered at 6.7 percent.

Carson City firefighters train, encourage homeowners to clear defensible space
Submitted by editor on Thu, 10/01/2015 - 8:57amIn a training exercise Wednesday, seasonal firefighters joined with recruits and veteran firefighters from the Carson City Fire Department to practice extinguishing wildfire and discouraging its spread.
“By training, we can hone our skills. We work together more efficiently,” said Rodd Rummel, wildland fuels management officer. “Even for seasoned veterans, training is always key to efficient and effective work.”
Crews spent the day at a north Carson home practicing different maneuvers, such as creating defensible space, thinning brush and extending the fire hose.

A deputy with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team was called to the area of Rand Avenue for a report of drug activity. Taken into custody was Erik Robert Compton.

Nevada initial unemployment claims decrease in April; overall claim stability continues

College of Southern Nevada's Mello took a four-hit shutout into the final inning, but the Wildcats fought back to score two runs before falling in the elimination game, 7-2.
