A socially-distanced Grand Opening of a new grooming salon, "Wizard of Pawz" in Carson City will be held on Oct. 10 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A new sushi restaurant, Capital City Sushi, has taken the place of Kim Lee's, which had closed in March of this year.

The popular sushi restaurant, located at 319 North Carson Street in downtown Carson City, closed down earlier this year amidst the COVID-19 shutdown, and Capital City Sushi took over the location soon after.

As part of the ongoing Nevada Humanities Exhibition Series, a new exhibition, Resiliency: A Blooming Diaspora, opens online on October 1, 2020 at nevadahumanities.org and will be on display as a virtual exhibition indefinitely. Mile High Jazz Band Association continues the 2020 Jazz & Beyond Festival’s series of live-streamed, streamed, and virtual events on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2020, with the second Jazz Brunch. The event, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Empire Ranch Golf, features Cherie and Take This Band.

Nevada residents and visitors are invited to celebrate Nevada Public Lands Day this Saturday, Sept. 26 with a “fee-free” day at Nevada’s State Parks. Park fees, including entrance, camping (Saturday night) and boating, where applicable, will be waived at state parks throughout Nevada.

CARSON CITY — As a result of COVID-19, V&T Railway Commission has announced that fan favorite, Polar Express, has been cancelled for the 2020 season. In its place, V&T Railway will host Santa’s Drive-Thru Village, a socially distanced holiday event, Dec. 11-13 and Dec. 18-24.

The next event, A Day at the Ranchette, is today, Sunday, September 20, 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., features the Sagebrush Rebels. This event was moved from Silver Saddle Ranch, and in-person attendance is sold out. However, it will be live-streamed on Facebook by A to Zen Media in Carson City. The Nevada Artist Association is proud to present the 2020 “Autumn Show” and the beautiful works of Featured Artists Karen Kreyeski and Maggie Stillwell.

The League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada, in partnership with Sierra Nevada Forums and AAUW Capital Branch will present a series of virtual election forums on October 9, 12, 13, and 16 beginning at 6 pm each night.

Carson City Health and Human Services will be combining drive-thru COVID-19 testing and flu vaccination events for Quad County residents in Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, and Storey counties. Residents can choose to receive a flu vaccine and/or a COVID-19 test at each event from the comfort of their vehicle. No appointments or reservations needed.
