The Carson City Photo Club has announced the winners of its monthly photo contest. The theme addressed by the November competition was "Action." The contests had a tie for third place.

Carson City Symphony Association announces release of Project Euterpe Episode 11 featuring the Carson Chamber Singers, an affiliate of the Carson City Symphony, performing "Hodie Christus natus est," by Dutch composer, organist, and teacher Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck. Choral Director Richard "Ricky" Hutton leads the 27 singers and brass quintet.

This year has been extremely challenging and with the impact of Covid; many of our families are struggling to ensure they can celebrate Christmas. However, generous community members have come together determined to help these families have a Christmas celebration not even Covid can stop.

In addition to being available by phone and online, the Carson City Library and staff remain committed to delivering its services to the local community through a variety of avenues. While currently closed to the public, the library is completing upgrades and installations to enable vulnerable populations to continue to safely access library collections.

Carson City Elks Lodge No. 2177 held a raffle drawing recently for a wooden American Flag. Proceeds from the raffle benefitted Holiday With a Hero, which is a local program that buys gifts for children and delivered by our first responders.

Do you know of a woman in our Carson City community who is dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls and should be recognized for her efforts? Soroptimist International of Carson City is accepting sponsorship submissions for our 2021 “Women Helping Women” honorees.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. The annual Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights holiday celebration goes virtual on Friday. Santa Claus will arrive virtually at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada and in-person at Battle Born Harley Davidson on Saturday for pictures with families and kids of all ages. Cary Richardson, vice president of business operations for Miles Construction of Carson City, Nev., has been appointed to the National Cannabis Industry Association Facilities Design Committee. The committee focuses on providing NCIA members across the country guidelines and framework for building design options for legal producers of cannabis as the market transitions from a state to a federally regulated industry.

Graduates of the Carson City Chamber Leadership classes volunteered their time Saturday to assist the state grounds crew in installing Christmas lights and decorations in front of the capitol.

Miles Construction of Carson City, Nev., has partnered with thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions, a German-based company, to design and build the company’s new service and manufacturing center at the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center in 2021.

Located at 3250 Retail Drive Suit 105, next to Dickey’s BBQ, The Mix Nutrition offers a variety of health foods including smoothies and juices, as well as meal plan programs.

To ensure the safety and wellbeing of its patrons, the Carson City Library will temporarily close starting Nov. 24, 2020, in response to the Governor’s statewide three-week pause and the elevated COVID-19 concerns especially for persons at risk.

UPDATE: There will be no live audience. The guidance from the city changed after the original press release was released. Anyone who bought tickets ahead of time can get reimbursed or have the money donated to the Carson City Symphony Assoc. Even the Grinch is distressed as the Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights becomes another casualty joining all the Carson City signature events cancelled since March 2020 due to the pandemic.

If this hater of everything Christmas is distressed, you can just imagine how sad all those who love this Carson City tradition will be.

Nevada Raider Nation, Carson City Chapter will host a Las Vegas Raiders vs Kansas City Chiefs game watch at 5 p.m. Sunday, at Jimmy G's, 301 N. Carson St. Game time is at 5:20 p.m. and will be a home game at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

This year the Carson Nugget in Carson City will celebrate its 63rd annual Community Thanksgiving Feast on Thursday, Nov. 26 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. All are welcome to join us in the Grand Ballroom. All guests will receive a free 8-inch turkey sandwich, stuffing, cranberry sauce and more.

The Carson City Senior Center and Meals on Wheels Carson City is proud to announce that it will be participating in the 2020 Subaru Share the Love Event as a member of Meals on Wheels America — one of four national Share the Love charitable partners supported through the campaign.

Reimagining learning, the Carson City Library is bringing robotics technology and engineering to Carson City middle school students in 2021. Utilizing analog and digital learning, students will build components of a bionic fish, elephant, and chameleon over the 3-day Bionics Camps designed to encourage STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) related career exploration and development.

The Carson City Library is not one to shy away from innovation and integrating technology. The latest, are four self-check kiosks installed last week designed to allow for hands-free or limited touch operation to help to curb the number of touches taking place, especially as pandemic concerns continue and the focus remains on keeping the community safe.

Paul Donald Hochsprung, born Oct. 21, 1953, passed away at Carson Tahoe Hospital with his wife at his side on March 23, 2020, after a recent diagnosis of metastatic melanoma.

The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest is initiating a public comment period on the proposed Forest-Wide Prescribed Fire Restoration Project. The purpose of this project is to increase the pace and scale of prescribed burning on lands within 6.2 million acres of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest in Nevada and a small portion of eastern California.

Be a part of bringing hope by voting on contestant art pieces to decide the “Social Media Fave” in the Donor Network West annual art contest. Four Carson High students, Anthony Larry, Connor Lampert, Danielle Van Dusen, and Sarai Jauregui Rivas made the first cut, though all of CHS Graphic Design Instructor Patricia Ababio’s students submitted entries.

Mayors of Dorkville and MOD Comics is a small comic book imprint started by Mike and Christian Robison of Twin Falls, ID and Carson City, NV. On December 1st they are launching a Kickstarter to fund the first print run of their new story “Champion.”
