Tattoo expo among events featured during Rockabilly Riot car show

With more than 50 booths featuring artists from across the West Coast, Rockabilly Riot’s Tattoo Expo this weekend in Carson City will highlight some of the region’s best ink.

“You’ll get a chance to be tattooed by someone you otherwise may not even know,” said Jeffery Williford, co-owner of the Ruby Lantern, which is sponsoring the expo. “Some of these guys have a waiting list of two to three weeks out. You have a better chance of actually seeing them here.”

City manager outlines current emergency preparedness plan

The Nevada state capital has seen its share of natural disasters and citywide emergencies.

From wildfires to flooding and all-too-common high wind events, Carson City Manager Nick Marano says local government is ready to respond at a moment's notice.

"The city has an emergency operations plan," Marano said. "We've gone through several rounds of modifications to it."

There is an emergency operations center, he said, that enhances communication between public safety and public works departments during local emergencies.

Rockabilly car show coming to Carson City in June

More than 550 rat rod cars are expected for Rockabilly Riot’s debut event in Carson City this June, tourism officials confirmed Tuesday.

Nevada Fair pre-sale tickets are on sale at the Carson City Visitors and Convention Bureau for $20.00. The pre-sale tickets are redeemed at the carnival for a wristband that allows you to ride all day on the day you choose to use it. Wristbands purchased at the fair are also $20. Pre-sale ticket sales will end Thursday.

'Walking lecture' on July 18 features history of Carson City trees

The Carson City Historical Society presents a free "walking lecture" on the "History of Trees in Carson City" on Thurday, July 18.

The presentation begins at the Carson City Library Auditorium, 900 N. Roop St., at 6:00 p.m. with a 20-30 minute slide show presentation about trees of our area by Kyle Horvath. Then, participants will drive over to the Capitol Ground for the rest of the lecture.

A research group will use Carson City volunteers to help measure Pluto early Saturday morning at the Jack C. Davis Observatory.

The Research and Education Cooperative Occultation Network, a citizen science research project exploring the outer solar system, is conducing a campaign to measure Pluto just before 1:30 a.m.
