North Lake Tahoe SnowFest first 10 days in March
Submitted by editor on Wed, 02/13/2013 - 2:20pmNorth Lake Tahoe celebrates its long winter season with SnowFest, a 10-day carnival and one of the region’s most popular annual family celebrations. SnowFest is scheduled for March 1-10 and will be held at a variety of venues throughout North Lake Tahoe.
In its 32nd year, SnowFest, presented by the North Lake Tahoe Chamber/CVB/ Resort Association, is expected to draw thousands of attendees, with the majority of events free to spectators.
North Lake Tahoe Wanderlust Festival lineup announced

'Bonanza' TV show fans to hold 2014 Roundup Convention in Carson City
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 02/03/2013 - 3:39pmA fan club of the TV Show "Bonanza" has announced it will hold its 2014 Bonanza Roundup Convention in Carson City at Gold Dust West.
The event is set for June 26-30, 2014 and marks a return to the Silver State, which hosted a similar Roundup in 2009.
According to the official Bonanza Roundup website, Carson City organizers have planned to open up many locations and homes that were a part of the popular TV show that ran from 1959 to 1973 with 430 episodes.

Eight bills to watch in Carson City

Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval has promised to veto any tax increase, while Democratic leaders have vowed to launch an extensive review of the existing tax structure, which has the potential to change the way businesses pay license fees, the live entertainment tax and other levies.

North Lake Tahoe launches free ski shuttle
Submitted by editor on Mon, 01/07/2013 - 4:31amGetting to North Lake Tahoe’s snowy ski slopes just got a whole lot easier with the launch of the region's first area-wide free ski shuttle serving North Lake Tahoe, Truckee and Donner Summit.
The service runs between area lodging properties to 9 different ski resorts on weekends and holiday weeks now through March 31. It was formed through a collaboration of the North Lake Tahoe Chamber/CVB/Resort Association in partnership with the Truckee/North Tahoe Transportation Management Association and Placer County, the town of Truckee and several ski resorts.

The weeklong international snow sculpture contest is specifically geared for spectators who will view firsthand 20-ton blocks of pure snow shaped and carved into breathtaking masterpieces. The competing teams are the best of the best – selected from the event’s top applicants and representing more than 20 countries.

We are sure to have a festive holiday afternoon at the lovely Bliss Mansion with hors d’oeurves, wine, and two kinds of entertainment. Dr. Michael Fischer, well-known Chautauqua speaker, will treat us to his impersonation of Governor John Sparks. Afterwards, Consort Trio (a trio from the popular Consort Canzona including harpsichord, cello, and recorder) will perform. The trio will play music from AD 1400 – 1620. You won’t want to miss this delightful performance!
More than 3.5 feet of new snow at Lake Tahoe ski resorts

“You just never know how these storms are going to play out,” said Chief Marketing Officer Andy Chapman of the North Lake Tahoe Chamber/CVB/Resort Association. “But Mother Nature cooperated and we’ve got new snow on the mountains.”

The Symphony will be joined by the newly formed Carson City Symphony Chorus and the Victorian Dancers. Pre-concert entertainment begins at 3 p.m. Conducted by David Bugli, the symphony will perform several works of Christmas and Hanukkah music. Fuel dumped results in convictions
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Thu, 11/22/2012 - 10:22amA Plumas County court recently sentenced two people for illegally dumping waste fuel on a northern California highway.
The crimes occurred during production of a television series called “Hell on the Highway: Highway Heroes.”
A co-star of the show, William Earnest Slade III, of Stockton, pleaded guilty to one felony and one misdemeanor pollution charge and was sentenced on Nov. 2 to 45 days in Plumas County jail.
He was also ordered to pay more than $1,700 in fines and $4,600 in restitution.
In addition, he will be on probation for three years.

Heavenly at Lake Tahoe celebrates snow arrival with early opening

Early-season storms combined with the West Coast’s largest snowmaking system have given Heavenly the ability to stage its earliest opening since 2004-05. All access to the mountain at this time is through the Heavenly Gondola and Tamarack Express.

Based on the Peter Tchaikovsky’s original ballet “The Nutcracker” this shorter, 45-minute version called "Peanutcracker" is a narrated story that is designed for families with younger children to introduce them to the wonderful world of ballet.
