As quickly as it appeared, the circus will be leaving after tonight’s performance. If you haven’t yet seen the acrobatic feats and playful antics of the Ramos Bros. Circus, you’re running out of options. Monday also brings a fun activity to the grounds of the Mormon Station State Park in Genoa. Kids will learn something new, make something, and spend some time outdoors. Now that summer has arrived, Food for Thought begins its summer program for kids in the Carson City area.

22 Carson City students recognized with Distinguished Student Award honors

The Carson City School District took time at the School Board meeting last night to recognize 22 students with the “Distinguished Student Award.”

I’m ready for spring. My allergies don’t seem to be as enthusiastic, but I love watching our valley awaken from its gray winter slumber. Muscle Powered’s guided hikes are a great way to explore our town and learn about the many trails hidden in the hills. The Carson City Classic Cinema Club gets an extra-special visitor at tonight’s film viewing; STRAZZ, the Carson City Symphony’s Youth String Orchestra will be performing before ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ lights up the screen. Sandie LaNae and Arlene La Ferry are the featured authors at Browsers Corner Book Store this evening.

Joanna Kaiser, 3rd grade teacher at Bordewich Bray Elementary School, was honored Tuesday as the Carson City School District’s Educator of the Year. Additionally, Franceska Quintana, para professional IV at Carson Middle School, was recognized as the Classified Employee of the Year for the district.

The board of directors of the Robert Z. Hawkins Foundation, a Reno based philanthropic organization awarded the Brewery Arts Center $18,576 to upgrade its stage equipment for not only the Levitt AMP Outdoor Concert series which kicks off this Friday night, June 23 with a free concert featuring the Grammy nominated swing band Big Bad VooDoo Daddy, but to be used in the existing indoor theaters year round.

Bomb threat forces evacuation at Empire school, sheriff's office determined call to be fake

A bomb threat was made to a teacher at Empire Elementary School on Monday afternoon. Classes had already been let out when the call was made from a nefarious telephone number, Carson City School District officials said.

Carson City firefighters called to small light fixture fire at Empire Elementary

UPDATE 9:45PM: A bird's nest near a light fixture caused a small fire Monday night at Empire Elementary School, a Carson City Battalion Chief said. Firefighters cut a portion of the roof open to determine if the fire had spread into the interior attic portion of the building. There was no further extension of fire in the roof, said Carson City Fire District Battalion Chief Dan Albee. The incident was turned over to school officials at 9:34 p.m.

Carson High School CTE graphic arts student designs winning logo for Google G-Suite educator summit

CARSON CITY, Nev. – Carson High School Career and Technical Education graphic design student, Jose Conchas, submitted the winning logo design for the upcoming Google G-Suite Summit hosted by Carson City School District in mid-February. More than 125 educators, 60 from Carson City, will attend the summit to learn how to effectively implement Google apps in the classroom.

Students finding their future careers before they have even graduated from high school has been an evolution in the making and who would have thought?

However, between Carson High School’s Senior Project graduation requirement, made possible by the generous working community of Carson City, the myriad of old and newly formed clubs offered to the students of Carson High, and on-site income earners like The Greenhouse Project, not to mention the Career and Technical Education Jump Start program offered through Western Nevada College, students are figuring out quickly that high school is not the end of their education before starting a career, it is where they may actually begin their careers.
