PK or NOT PK - THAT is the question!

Who does PK fear? Who's the target for the hit pieces? Kramer! But no hit pieces on the other two guys. Why not? Sandoval's PAC can afford research - research showing PK behind Kramer - and the others back in the distance. Hence, hit pieces on Kramer. Yep - he paid off his home - taxes weren't paid by mortgage company - Al missed the notices and got small fines. Big Deal! And that's all the dirt Sandoval and the Elites could dig up on him??Must be a pretty good guy!

Candidates for Carson City Mayor and State Assembly District 40 addressed a nearly full house of voters at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall Wednesday night during a candidate forum sponsored by the Carson City Chamber of Commerce.

The candidates participated in a structured debate moderated by Nevada Appeal Editor Adam Trumble.

As a group, they were asked questions on specific topics and each given two minutes to provide a response.

Experts in urban planning agree for a city to be an economic success, a sense of place is the most important element.
A “Soul of the Community” survey, conducted by Gallup in 2010 in 23 cities for the Knight Foundation found “physical beauty, opportunities for socializing and a city’s openness to all people” ranked more important that jobs and the economy. This soul is called sense of place and differentiates one city from another at a time when planners are creating cookie cutter cities.

The Nevada Appeal had a letter-to-the-editor (dated May 1, 2016) stating:
The Downtown Project is more than aesthetics and declared: “Seventy percent of the total expenditures of the downtown project, currently underway, are for vital infrastructure improvements that are failing and run right down the middle of Carson Street under the medians.”

What do you want from your local Government ? Generally we answer that question with: Provide Fire and Police first. I suggest we have a more elemental need. We want the TRUTH. The residents of this community will see the wisdom of any service or project if it is based in the truth. The more the truth is shaded the more the residents will resist. Without truth there is no trust.

The Society of Professional Journalists has awarded Jason Paladino, SNC Tahoe graduate and native of Truckee, Cal., their NorCal 2016 James Madison Freedom of Information Student Award for his investigation into the Navy’s Sea Dragon program.

Ten years ago, a group of teachers started a little club at CHS for staff called Senator Pride. One of our projects was to expand the news to our community of all the great things happening at Carson High School.

I recently responded to some questions from Brett Fisher, an editor and writer for Carson Now about New Year’s resolutions for an article he was writing. It was a good article about the challenges we all face whenever we want to make changes in our lives.

James Smack says it can be quite difficult to have a conversation or state facts on public affairs television with today’s progressives of the Obama/Clinton/Sanders ilk. The statist liberal crowd is used to controlling media narratives, and they don’t brook dissent or facts and logic that undermine their control.

When a conservative brings up a valid point or question, they get flustered and angry. Instead of a thoughtful, constructive, respectful answer, the conservative often gets shouted down, not debated in a reasonable exchange between civilized discussants.

Youth Theatre Carson City will feature the upcoming production of "Yes, Virginia: The Musical," an exciting new holiday classic based on the Macy’s and NBC Holiday special of the same name.

"Yes, Virginia: The Musical" has been adapted specifically for children and families by Macy’s, in partnership with the Make-a-Wish Foundation. The show will run two performances, Dec. 19-20, 2015 in the Bob Boldrick Theatre at the Carson City Community Center.

A few visitors came over to the Quilici home on Nevada Street for lunch Wednesday. These bucks, does and fawns have paid Don and Elaine Quilici, Carson Now's Outdoor editor and photographer Emeritus and Emerita, a visit to their west side Carson City home over the past two days, enjoying cool temperatures, forage and trying to stay out of the way of motorists.

Do you want to build a snowman, Carson City? That may be ambitious with our first dusting of snow, but I’m sure you could finagle a snowball or two.

The staff of Carson High School and Douglas High School have agreed to a rivalry basketball game to be played Nov. 19 at DHS. The staff basketball game is a fundraiser for the Peace Officer’s Memorial Fund.
Multiple members of each of the school’s staff will be on hand to battle it out on the basketball court and continue the rivalry, but for a good cause. Come support the Senators or the Tigers and be sure to wear your favorite school’s colors.

As of Saturday, I am retiring as the Outdoor Editor for Carson Now and a very special outdoor photographer (my wife Elaine) will also be retiring.
It's been a great run, full of great memories, but sooner or later all good things must come to an end, and Oct. 31 is that special time for the two of us.

As the Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company celebrates its 25th anniversary with a long-awaited production of “Mary Poppins,” weekends, Nov. 6 through 21, the company is also reflecting on the impact it has made in Northern Nevada.

In addition to the high quality theatre that it has offered the region, many former student/performers have gone on to careers in Hollywood, on Broadway, in academia and more.

This is mid-October and whether or not you are ready, be advised that winter is sneaking up on us.
As one who has lived in Carson City most of my life, I have learned through the years that one day the weather can be gorgeous and then the next day: Bam, the countryside is covered with a deep layer of snow.

And once the snow arrives, it is followed by ice and cold weather, which will normally be with us into the month of March.

We are looking to expand our staff at Carson Now. The preferred candidate would be someone with a nose for local news, and who enjoys getting out in the community to find out what's happening.

This person will be responsible for writing news and feature stories, taking photos and video, and editing reader submissions. Ideally, we would like to have someone who knows the area, but a newcomer who is motivated to discover all the things we locals love about Carson City would be great, too.
