Saturday, Oct. 10 and Sunday, Oct. 11 are the dates for the 34th Annual Eldorado Great Italian Festival on North Virginia Street in downtown Reno. If you have never attended the festival, you have missed out on a great way to enjoy a Saturday or Sunday (or both) in early October.
Nevada Magazine receives top awards by Nevada Press Association

Nevada Travel Network wins first place press association awards
Submitted by editor on Mon, 10/05/2015 - 12:25pmIn its first entry into the Nevada Press Association‘s annual awards competition the Gold Hill-based Nevada Travel Network was awarded first place in two of the three categories it entered.
The blue ribbon for ‘Best Writing Online’ was awarded to the monthly NevadaGram and First Place in the ‘Best Feature Story Online’ category went to David Toll for “A visit to the Belmont Mill and Hamilton."
Outdoors with Don Q: Pyramid Lake trout season now open

This is a reminder that Pyramid Lake, which is located about 30-35 miles north of Reno-Sparks, is now open to fishing for its super-sized Lahontan cutthroat trout that range in size and are can be 20 pounds or bigger. That large, desert lake (roughly the same surface size as Lake Tahoe) has a three-month trout closure, each year, from July 1 to Sept. 30.

Railroad Photographer Exhibition coming to Carson City

October 3, 2015 (All day) In the tradition of Winterail, Silver Rail 2015 is an informal gathering of railroad photographers, artists, writers, historians and preservationists. The event will be Oct. 3 at the Brewery Arts Center and will feature a full day of multimedia presentations of documentary and creative railroad photography and fellowship.

The second Free Fishing Day in 2015 in California will be Sept. 5. The first was way back on Saturday, July 4. On Sept. 5, you will be able to fish wherever you like without the need to buy a fishing license. However remember that you will need to abide by the rules and regulations that govern whatever water(s) you will be fishing.

In a previous article, I wrote that our good friend, Barry Drury who lives in Watson Lake, Yukon, Canada had invited us to join him, his wife Susan, plus two of their friends, Denis Ryan also of Watson Lake and Kirk Jensen of Whitehorse, Yukon on a three-day, fishing trip at Pelican, Alaska.
