It's a free show, so cast your cares away for an evening and enjoy live acoustic music with Tom and Mary Kay Aufrance in the dining room at Grandma Hatties Restaurant. Their music is an eclectic blend of popular and folk music. Carson City's folk duo branches out from their Celtic roots and includes vocal harmonies and sing-alongs popularized by duos like Ike and Tina, James Taylor and Linda Ronstadt, The Eagles, Johnny and June Cash and more. The peaceful adrenaline of Paragliding over Tahoe

Is it possible to be thrilled and relaxed at the same time?

I learned the answer to this question hanging beneath the canopy of a paraglider as it soared several hundred feet over the forested ridge that runs along the border between California and Nevada on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe.

The excitement of flying through the air under an oversized parachute was matched only by the peaceful beauty of the blue lake below. It's a vantage point that might have left the great Mark Twain speechless.

Public Meeting for Winter Planning at Lake Davis

The Plumas National Forest, Beckwourth Ranger District would like to invite you to a meeting to help identify a Winter recreation trail system for the Smith Peak/Lake Davis area. The meeting will be held on July 31st at the Beckwourth Ranger District conference room at 10:00 am. We will review the map proposed by the public for motorized and non-motorized trails within this planning area.

The district started public collaboration on this project in January of 2012, public meetings were held on January 26 and March 7.

CTRH Auxiliary Rummage Sale

The Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare Auxiliary will hold a Rummage Sale on Friday, April 13, from 8:00AM to 4:00PM and Saturday, April 14th from 8:00AM to 12:00PM. The Sale will be conducted at the Eagles Lodge, 1380 E. 5th Street (Between Roop St. and Saliman) in Carson City.
If you wish to donate items for the Rummage Sale, they may be taken to the Eagles Lodge, Wednesday, April 11 and Thursday, April 12th from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Auxiliary members will be there to accept your donations. NO LARGE APPLIANCES, COMPUTERS, OR EXERCISE EQUIPMENT PLEASE!

Longtime labor leader Danny Coyle dies in Carson City

Longtime Nevada labor leader Danny Coyle died of cancer in Carson City early Saturday morning, July 17. He was 74 years old.
At the time of his death, he was president of the retiree chapter of American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 4041/AFL-CIO, an organization he founded. He was concurrently legislative vice-chair of the Nevada Alliance for Retired Americans. He had also served as president of AFSCME Local 4041/AFL-CIO.

In the latest Carson City Chamber of Commerce calendar update sent to members today, an item in small print stuck out to us like a giant billboard. In announcing the June 16, 5 p.m. Chamber Mixer at Geeks of Nevada, at 520 South Curry Street, there's a surreptitious note, in small type, which reads "behind the soon-to-be-opened Ormsby House."

Swanky's Speakeasy fundraiser for Carson Tahoe Cancer Center

Carson City physicians will be serving tables during the Celebrity Docs Swanky's Speakeasy of the 1920s to raise money for the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center. A new 2010 car will also be raffled for the center. The event will be held on Saturday, June 12, at Glen Eagles Restaurant, 3700 North Carson Street. Feather River College and Carson High graduate Kyle Stone will begin a new season on Friday when the California state community college baseball playoffs get under way.

Tough night for Rasner and the Eagles

Carson High graduate Darrell Rasner had his second straight outstanding start on the mound late Wednesday night, but was the tough luck loser for the Rakuten Eagles in their 4-0 defeat to the Fakuoka Hawks.
Coming off a complete game effort in which he earned his first win of the year, Rasner allowed three runs, two earned, on six hits while striking out six and walking three in six innings against the Hawks. Rasner (1-4) lowered his earned run average to 5.52 in the process.

Rasner puts it all together in Japan

It had been a tough start to the season for Carson High graduate Darrell Rasner in the Japan League, but Rasner finally put it all together in his last start on the mound for the Rakuten Eagles. After struggling and losing in his first three starts, Rasner pitched a gem late Thursday night, throwing a complete game in the Eagles 11-2 win over the Nippon Fighters. In picking up his first win of the season, Rasner pitched eight shutout innings before allowing two runs in the ninth.

Rumors of Glen Eagles closing 'totally false'

Glen Eagles Restaurant, a Carson City fine dining establishment for 13 years, is still going strong and remains open despite rumors of it being closed.

Restaurant Chef John Ammerman confirmed today that rumors of Glen Eagles having closed or was to be closing are indeed false, and that the rumor has been circulating for at least two weeks.
