At the monthly Carson City Airport Authority meeting of the board, the Authority presented Donna Clarke, executive director of the Eagle Valley Children's Home, a check in the amount of $3,963.61 to establish an endowment in the name of the Carson City Airport Authority to support the mission of the children's home.

This year, Carson High School announced that earbuds and headphones will be banned from campus in an effort to create a better and safer learning environment.

“It’s a safety issue,” said Dan Davis of the Carson City School District. “While they’re on campus, if the principal or a teacher needs to audibly communicate with a student, they need to be able to hear them for safety reasons.”

A 39-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the 500 block of Southwest Court and Silver Sage Drive late Thursday evening for attempting burglary, resisting arrest, battery on a protected person, probation violation, and destruction of property.

Dakotah Orion Bliss-Erb was arrested after deputies were patrolling the area of Silver Sage and Clearview Drive when they observed a taxi parked on the corner with its hazards on.

Concert Under the Stars venue set to soar Wednesday at Carson City's Eagle Valley Golf Course

A Carson City live music favorite, Concert Under the Stars, is set to soar this Wednesday night. With hours ticking, construction was well underway Tuesday at Eagle Valley Golf Course at Centennial Park, a new venue for the show and its future.

Helping with set up was John Procaccini, who produces the concert for The Greenhouse Project and helped start the blockbuster event with Charlie and Karen Abowd more than a decade ago, with its beginnings in the Cafe at Adele's parking lot.

“We see 80 percent of our clients in the last couple of weeks of the month,” explained Joyce Buckingham, executive director. “They have reached the end of their SNAP benefits or their social security or other benefits.”

JoAnne Skelly: We have apple trees that did not have blossoms this spring

A reader sent me a question. “We had an arborist trim our apple tree in March and this is the first year in at least 20 years that the tree had no blossoms. Is this situation common or did we do something wrong?” Neither of my apple trees had flowers this year either. I had assumed a late freeze had caused this because often my trees bloom, then there is a freeze and the flowers wither and die. However, this year there weren’t any flowers at all.

The Fox Brewpub unveils a new brew to raise funds for the Greenhouse Project

The Fox Brewpub and the Greenhouse Project partnered to create the Greenhouse Project Brut-Session IPA, available now until it's gone at The Fox and at the July 10 Concert Under the Stars.

One dollar of every beer sold goes to the Greenhouse Project (TGP). At the concert, growlers and kegs will be donated as well as 32-ounce crowlers at each of the VIP dinner tables.
