I visited a performance center in Richmond, California last week and came away mightily impressed. How's this for a mission statement:

John Nicholas Sulli was born Jan. 1, 1953, in San Jose, Calif., to Emil and Eleanor Sulli. Surrounded by the family and caregivers that loved and cared for him, on Nov. 8, 2019, he passed peacefully and sweetly from this life to reunite with his family who have pre-deceased him. Johnny was blessed with being born and living with Down's Syndrome for 66 years, 10 months in mortality.

CARSON CITY — Friday is the deadline for bills to make it out of committee at the state Capitol, so conservation groups are drumming up support for those that address renewable energy and protection for wildlife habitat. Senate Bill 358 would require power companies to get 50 percent of their energy from renewable sources by 2030.

CARSON CITY — To celebrate the arrival of several new musical instruments from a $16,000 grant for music education earned earlier this year, Mark Twain Elementary School will host an Orff & Drum Music Open House Tuesday, May 29, at 6 p.m. in the multipurpose room.

Join Muscle Powered and our Parks and Recreation Department at the Silver Saddle Ranch for a presentation and trash mob. Kids will love the Carnival at Bordewich Elementary School, and it helps raise funds for a local Cub Scout Pack. Mark Twain Elementary is hosting their annual Color Run at Mills Park, just make sure to wear a white shirt.

The new year, 2018, is starting very well for Mark Twain Elementary School music students. The Carson City School District is pleased to announce a $16,000 grant awarded to Mark Twain Elementary for music education. The monies will be used to purchase new musical instruments including a 50-piece world drumming set, steel drums, hand chimes and various other percussion instruments.

In a remarkable interfaith gesture and a unique way to welcome 2018, various religions got together in Reno (Nevada) to celebrate the ringing in of the New Year at midnight in a unique and divine manner, away from the glitter of the casinos and sending a message of unity to the world.

Translated to English, the La Ka Le’l Be Powwow means, “The People’s Gathering.” Organizer Martin Montgomery expects this year the name will be more appropriate than ever.

This photo presents some of the participants of the Eclipse Gathering at the Healthy Energy Center at Thompson and 4th Street. The Gathering included Mother Earth ceremonies, songs for Mother Earth, Greeting Circles, Drumming Circles and a fabulous lunch spread - among all the festivities.

Big Sam's Funky Nation is headed to Crystal Bay for a free concert in the Crystal Bay Casino's Crown Room on Friday, Oct. 14 beginning at 10 p.m.

One night each year, John Street, adjacent to Cafe at Adele’s in Carson City is transformed into an intimate music venue for Concert Under the Stars, and for a few precious moments the air is filled with great music, a lot of love and laughter in order to raise money that continues the The Greenhouse Project’s mission of educating the next generation of farmers and feeding the under served in the community.

The Jazz & Beyond - Carson City Music Festival concludes with nine events on Saturday, August 22, and four events on Sunday August 23.

Getting tuned up in preparation of a summer membership drive, the Brewery Arts Center promises an evening of great music and dancing Friday night with Delta Nove.

This American funk and rock, Caribbean calypso and reggae, and Brazilian samba drumming band mixes music from cultures around the world to come up with a unique sounds all its own. This blend of drums, guitars, horns, and electronic colors calls to mind the grooves of Parliament Funkadelic, the horns of Earth Wind and Fire, the diversity of Manu Chao, and the psychedelic improvisation of the Grateful Dead.

Christina Thomas is a woman of Paiute, Shoshone, and Hopi descent who has been acknowledged as an emerging leader of her people.

Christina explores the performing arts of traditional singing, drumming and dancing. She has given lessons in the Paiute language, tells traditional stories, shares knowledge of traditional foods and plants, and also discusses the history of the Great Basin native peoples; and gives her unique perspective on contemporary Native American issues.

Such beautiful weather this week. True to Nevada luck, the chill returns in time for the weekend. Keep your fingers crossed that the storm front brings some precipitation our way. One place it’s seasonally appropriate is the Nevada Artist Association Gallery at the Brewery Arts Center. They will be hosting an artists’ reception for their new Winter Art Show Saturday evening.

In a remarkable interfaith gesture, Christian of various denominations, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish and Baha’i leaders gathered Wednesday at the Governor’s Mansion in Carson City and prayed for the welfare of Nevada on its 150th anniversary as a state.

Organized by religious statesman Rajan Zed and Nevada 150 this “Nevada 150 Signature Event” was presided over by Nevada Lieutenant Gov. Brian K. Krolicki.

Seeliger Elementary and the Brewery Arts Center have partnered to bring "Dancing Drum," an interactive performance on Friday that combines high energy drumming with abundant opportunities for audience participation.

Students from Seeliger Elementary School will join New Orleans-based Dancing Drum's Steve Campbell during a section of the performance.

Be prepared for lots of great music, outstanding musicianship and a fun way to kick off your Memorial Day weekend. Tickets are $5. The show begins 7:00pm in the BAC Performance Hall, 511 W King Street in Carson City.

The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada hosts a Family Dance Party, Friday, May 23 at 5 p.m. Enjoy music with a live disc jockey, dancing, food truck, vendors, African drumming and more. Raise the roof while raising money for the museum, located at 813 N. Carson St. Admission is $5 and $15.

Featured Band: Coming together from a variety of local projects and backgrounds, the five members of UNDER THE RADAR have created a composite tone that provides a niche sound of Jazz/Funk/Rock/Blues.

An action-packed week filled with music, arts, books, Nevada political history and more will be featured as Carson City Library celebrates National Library week.

To the beat of traditional American Indian drumming, Eugene Mills joined Carson High School classmates dancing Wednesday in solidarity with the global environmental demonstration Idle No More.

Marching to the beat of her own drum, Liz Broscoe, drummer, teacher and author, created this original production showcasing film, narration and performance. Liz, AKA Drumchik is perhaps one of the most diverse percussive talents on finger, hand and stick drums.

On Saturday, November 3rd at 6:30pm the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada in Carson City is hosting an African Night. The evening will include African Dance and Drumming, a Raffle, Live Auction (auction conducted by The Auction Company: Dennis Hudson, Auctioneer), Silent Auction and African Dress Parade.

About a year and a half ago, I met Mike Ball down at the Tap Shack, a little hole in the wall bar in downtown Carson City. He and a couple other of my friends were discussing building a bar on wheels that could be pedaled around town. While it sounded very cool, I passed it off as one of those crazy ideas that bubbles up after a few pints of beer. Something akin to quitting your job and backpacking across Spain, or the ultimate bank heist. It sounded like too much effort to me.

Experience a unique blend of art and the natural world during the eighth annual Trails and Vistas art hike on Sept. 17 and Sept. 18. The hike, modeled on the theme of “Reflections and Rhythms,” takes place at Spooner Lake in Lake Tahoe-Nevada State Park (Glenbrook, NV ) – just fifteen from Incline Village and less than a one-hour drive from Reno, Carson City, South Lake Tahoe and Truckee.

VIRGINIA CITY, Nev. — Just as Michael Jordan and Bugs Bunny formed a winning box office team in "Space Jam," the competition will be hot and hilarious for Pet Jam on the Comstock this weekend.
A Pet Jamboree has been added to the annual Virginia City Pet Parade.

The Pet Jam will be held on Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Silverland Arena, directly behind the Silverland Inn & Suites, the same area used for the annual Virginia City Camel Races.
