Obituary: Johnny N. Sulli

John Nicholas Sulli was born Jan. 1, 1953, in San Jose, Calif., to Emil and Eleanor Sulli. Surrounded by the family and caregivers that loved and cared for him, on Nov. 8, 2019, he passed peacefully and sweetly from this life to reunite with his family who have pre-deceased him. Johnny was blessed with being born and living with Down's Syndrome for 66 years, 10 months in mortality.

Groups push for votes on Nevada renewable energy, public lands legislation

CARSON CITY — Friday is the deadline for bills to make it out of committee at the state Capitol, so conservation groups are drumming up support for those that address renewable energy and protection for wildlife habitat. Senate Bill 358 would require power companies to get 50 percent of their energy from renewable sources by 2030.

Carson City school hosts concert, open house to celebrate new music instruments

Carson City's Mark Twain Elementary earns $16,000 music grant with help from jam band Phish

The new year, 2018, is starting very well for Mark Twain Elementary School music students. The Carson City School District is pleased to announce a $16,000 grant awarded to Mark Twain Elementary for music education. The monies will be used to purchase new musical instruments including a 50-piece world drumming set, steel drums, hand chimes and various other percussion instruments.

Getting tuned up in preparation of a summer membership drive, the Brewery Arts Center promises an evening of great music and dancing Friday night with Delta Nove.

This American funk and rock, Caribbean calypso and reggae, and Brazilian samba drumming band mixes music from cultures around the world to come up with a unique sounds all its own. This blend of drums, guitars, horns, and electronic colors calls to mind the grooves of Parliament Funkadelic, the horns of Earth Wind and Fire, the diversity of Manu Chao, and the psychedelic improvisation of the Grateful Dead.

Multi-faith clergy pray together for Nevada at Governor’s Mansion

In a remarkable interfaith gesture, Christian of various denominations, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish and Baha’i leaders gathered Wednesday at the Governor’s Mansion in Carson City and prayed for the welfare of Nevada on its 150th anniversary as a state.

Organized by religious statesman Rajan Zed and Nevada 150 this “Nevada 150 Signature Event” was presided over by Nevada Lieutenant Gov. Brian K. Krolicki.

Dancing Drum performance Friday at Brewery Arts Center

Seeliger Elementary and the Brewery Arts Center have partnered to bring "Dancing Drum," an interactive performance on Friday that combines high energy drumming with abundant opportunities for audience participation.

Students from Seeliger Elementary School will join New Orleans-based Dancing Drum's Steve Campbell during a section of the performance.

Be prepared for lots of great music, outstanding musicianship and a fun way to kick off your Memorial Day weekend. Tickets are $5. The show begins 7:00pm in the BAC Performance Hall, 511 W King Street in Carson City.

About a year and a half ago, I met Mike Ball down at the Tap Shack, a little hole in the wall bar in downtown Carson City. He and a couple other of my friends were discussing building a bar on wheels that could be pedaled around town. While it sounded very cool, I passed it off as one of those crazy ideas that bubbles up after a few pints of beer. Something akin to quitting your job and backpacking across Spain, or the ultimate bank heist. It sounded like too much effort to me.

VIRGINIA CITY, Nev. — Just as Michael Jordan and Bugs Bunny formed a winning box office team in "Space Jam," the competition will be hot and hilarious for Pet Jam on the Comstock this weekend.
A Pet Jamboree has been added to the annual Virginia City Pet Parade.

The Pet Jam will be held on Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Silverland Arena, directly behind the Silverland Inn & Suites, the same area used for the annual Virginia City Camel Races.
