Enjoying the mix of sunshine, clouds and the overall late fall conditions around the capital city? More of the same is expected Wednesday into Thursday, with another system due in time for the weekend. Activities around Carson City include an educational discussion on dementia presented by the Alzheimer's Association at the Carson City Library, a moonlight walk to C-Hill, a "Get Fit with Fight Camp" at Yaple's Ballroom, art showings, a Carson Valley Community Theatre audition call for two plays, classes and more.

The spirit of the Christmas season was alive in the streets of downtown Carson City on Friday and Saturday nights. The first three photos are of the Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights celebration and were taken by Lynn McCarthy. The final set of photos, taken by Cathleen Allison of Nevada Momentum, are of Saturday night's Holiday Crawl, in support of the Holiday with a Hero campaign. Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of holiday events around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights, the 24th annual Parade of Lights in Gardnerville, the annual Project Empty Bowls dinner held at the Carson Mall, a Holiday Crawl in downtown Carson City and much more! With family activities making up the Christmas tree lighting at the capitol on Friday night, Saturday night is reserved for grownups who are invited to take a festive walk through downtown Carson City and make stops and their favorite restaurants and bars as part of a community fundraiser for local schoolchildren who are without permanent homes.

The break in the stormy weather was a short one, with more precipitation later in the day Wednesday, forecasters say. Activities around Carson City on Dec. 4 include a "Red Kettle" job hiring event at the Carson City Salvation Army, a Fitness Lab grand opening on Minnesota Street, a "Get Fit with Fight Camp" at Yaple's Ballroom, art showings, library activities, classes and more.

Since 1988, the Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights has heralded in Carson City’s holiday season. The festival has grown from a simple tree lighting on the capitol grounds to involving the entire downtown core attracting thousands to enjoy this very special event.

For 20 years I have been bringing Christmas events to Downtown Carson City, beginning in 2000 when I had my retail store on Telegraph Square with Santa and his real reindeer. The Santa Parade was created in 2007 and was always the Saturday after the Silver and Snowflake festival originating at Telegraph Square to bring awareness to the existing businesses in the area.

The last Thursday of November means a big gobble gobble, Happy Thanksgiving to all. Enjoy in the games, festivities, activities at home and outdoors. Events are at a minimum, for obvious reasons, but the two big ones are traditions for us in the capital city. The Carson City Turkey Trot at the Governor's Mansion and the free Carson Nugget Thanksgiving community dinner. Enjoy your day and any slight break in the weather. More winter storms are on the way.

Heading into its 16th year of giving Carson City schoolchildren living without permanent homes a Christmas for themselves and their family, Holiday with a Hero is upon us and so is the need for the community's financial support.

With snow overnight into the morning, the eve of Thanksgiving will bustle with last minute food shopping and, for many, preparing for an extended holiday weekend. There's a few activities around Carson City on Wednesday, Nov. 27 including a "Get Fit with Fight Camp" at Yaple's Ballroom, art showings, classes and more.

Once upon a time in 2002 there was a sign on Telegraph Square in Carson City that stood there tall and proud for 15 years. It survived the depression during the recession and was found in the boneyard during the Curry street renovation.

Those who made Nevada Day 2019 possible — the volunteers who put in hundreds of hours of organizing and preparing — were celebrated Thursday evening at a Carson City dinner held at Casino Fandango.

While much of the nation is stuck in an arctic freeze, we're stranded with abundant sunshine in Nevada's capital city area with temperatures well above normal for this time of year. Going into the middle of the work week we can expect highs near 70. Responders were called to a non injury vehicle crash in front of Mom and Pop’s Diner on Carson Street at 3:36 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

Another vehicle was initially reported and the reporting party stated a hit and run situation was involved, but then advises its possible the other driver of the vehicle didn’t realize a hit had occurred.

Traffic is being blocked. Avoid the area if possible.

Going into the middle of the work week we can expect sunny skies with highs in the upper 60s. Heading into the last day of October and you know what that means: Happy Halloween! Best to bundle up under the costumes as Thursday will be another chilly day, though warmer than Wednesday. Going into the eve of Halloween, teeth will be chattering as the weather calls for sunny skies but with a chill in the air and daytime temperatures in the upper 40s around the capital city. Events around town Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019 include a Halloween costume walk at Riverview Park in Carson City, a "trick or trunk" event in Dayton, art showings, storytelling at the Carson City Library and more.

The ghosts and zombies and costume super heroes will be out and about now through Thursday, either at organized events or Halloween night trick or treating around the Carson City area, including the Carson Mall, throughout downtown and at the Governor's Mansion.

The annual Nevada Day hot air balloon launch from Carson Street in downtown Carson City Saturday morning gave lift off to Nevada's 155th birthday celebration.

The 30th annual Nevada Day Classic Run/Walk kicked-off the weekend festivities in Carson City on Saturday.

Each year, the Nevada Day parade makes its way through downtown Carson City in the biggest event of the year. The annual celebration of Nevada's induction into Statehood is a time-honored and popular tradition, with upwards of 20,000 people flocking to the Capital region. This year, however, you don't have to be in the Capital city to be a part of the celebration.

We're days away from our celebration of statehood and the weather around the capital city couldn't be more, well, Nevada-like with daytime highs near 70 and sunny skies. Carson City area activities ahead for Wednesday, Oct. 23 feature an economic roundup presented by the Northern Nevada Development Authority at Casino Fandango, Carson Tahoe's annual "Spooktacular" family event, Firehouse Subs will host our local Search and Rescue for a dinner fundraiser; Sierra Nevada Journeys and Nature Conservancy will present family STEM night in Genoa, plus art showings and more. St. Peter's Episcopal Church in downtown Carson City at the corner of Telegraph and Division streets will host its annual Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 9 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Items available include hand-crafted notecards, hand-made apparel, accessories, and items for the home. Raggedy Ann dolls and Christmas bears will provide unique gifts.
