Western Nevada College graduates record number

Western Nevada College graduated its largest class ever Monday. A record 556 students earned a total of 598 degrees and certificates.

In a first, 27 graduates are high school students who participated in WNC’s Jump Start College program. These students are to receive their associate degrees prior to receiving their high school diplomas.

WNC Baseball: Wildcats make bats sing with victory at Western District opener in Colorado

Western Nevada College put the pedal to the metal in its opener of the Western District baseball tournament on Thursday in Trinidad, Colo.

The Wildcats of Carson City launched two homers and totaled 14 hits in a 9-5 victory against tournament host Trinidad State in Central Park. Bradley Lewis and Abe Yagi smashed two-run homers to spark unranked WNC in their first game of the season using metal bats.

No deficit is too large for the Western Nevada College Wildcats. WNC fell behind College of Southern Nevada, 5-0, in the second inning of the Region 18 baseball championship on Saturday afternoon in Henderson but rallied with six runs in the final two innings to overtake the Coyotes, 11-9.

Heavy rain and lightning suspended the Western Nevada College-College of Southern Nevada baseball series on Thursday afternoon at John L. Harvey Field in Carson City.

The teams will pick up action at 10 a.m. Friday, with the Wildcats batting in the bottom of the fifth inning and the score tied at 2. Weather allowing, the teams will try to play two additional games following the completion of the suspended game.

Carson City man among 9 in Reno area implicated in DEA prescription drug case

A local doctor and eight other Reno-area residents, including a number of employees of the Jones West Ford dealership have been arrested and charged with being part of a conspiracy to unlawfully distribute highly addictive prescription drugs, including oxycodone, to people who did not have a medical necessity for them.

Meditation Rooms opened at UNR

“Meditation and Reflection Rooms” formally opened on March 16 at University of Nevada, Reno claimed to be one of the “nation's top public research universities”.

These “Meditation and Reflection Rooms” feature two individual rooms and a larger space for reflection, meditation and prayer. It includes various cabinets where each group can keep their required religious icons and articles locked to be brought out when needed by individuals.
