The Monks of the Gaden Shartse Monastery will teach a Tibetan Calligraphy and Butter Sculpture Workshop and hold a Vajravidarin Healing Ritual in the Brewery Arts Center today. Carson’s nightlife features live music, karaoke, Carson Comedy, and west coast swing. Read on for all the details.

New eatery, Bella Vita Bistro in the Carson Mall, brings local singer, Dougie L in to entertain the dinner crowd. Funnyman, Joshua Fonokalafi, headlines at Carson Comedy inside the Nugget; get there early for dinner and drinks and make it a date night. Read on for even more Friday happenings.

Put a smile on your face at the Brewery Arts Center: their monthly improv night will have you in stitches. Ev Musselman of the Trippin King Snakes takes the stage at Living the Good Life and will have you on the dance floor. Meet artist Carrie White at the Carson City Art Gallery. Tonight, funnyman Steven Briggs kicks off three nights of comedians at Carson Comedy inside of the Nugget Casino. Whiskey Tavern on Highway 50 East hosts a Friday night karaoke party. Enjoy the music stylings of Tom Miller during dinner at Living the Good Life, then stick around for some dancing.
Laughs, live music, and the Library’s Winter Read-a-thon kick-off: Friday fun around Carson City

The Carson City Library invites everyone in the community to participate in the annual Winter Read-a-thon with a goal of 90,000 minutes read (or listened to) over the next two weeks. Sign up on-line or at their kick-off event this afternoon. Comedian John Mencarelli headlines Carson Comedy inside the Carson Nugget, and you’ll find the Rebekah Chase Band on stage in their Loft. The Carson Nugget gives you comedian John Hilder in Carson Comedy and the band Adrenaline playing in ‘The Loft.’ Kids will love the Wild Horse Children’s Theater production of ‘Honk, Jr.’, while ‘Love/Sick,’ performed by the Proscenium Players, is meant for an older audience. Let Roska Entertainment take you into late-night with their weekly dance party in Battle Born Social’s Sage Lounge.

Start off with a trip to the Governor’s Mansion with something non-perishable for the annual Share Your Christmas Food Drive: you won’t even have to leave the warmth of your vehicle. Break a leg to Wild Horse Children’s Theater and to the Proscenium Players. Both troupes begin the run of their winter plays tonight at the Brewery Arts Center. It’s a Christmas Shopping Extravaganza at Fuji Park. You’ll find a plethora of vendors, crafters, and artisans waiting to help make your holiday shopping hassle-free.

Carson High School's NJROTC cadets surprised their instructors James Ingram and Daniel Meyer when, two weeks before the end of the semester, they voted to adopt five families for the holidays.

Senator Square: Carson High senior projects are more than a graduation requirement
Submitted by editor on Sat, 12/24/2016 - 8:31pmRaynna Jackson began helping with Toys for Tots at the Ron Wood center before Thanksgiving in order to fulfill her CHS Senior Project graduation requirement; she decided to help give underprivileged children a Merry Christmas.
She started by putting boxes at CHS and her mother’s place of employment, Natel Company. Toys for Tots serves more than 2,000 Carson City area kids every Christmas, and Raynna took this personally; she wanted to help bring in even more gifts. Raynna ultimately facilitated the gathering of 2 large boxes of toys.

However, between Carson High School’s Senior Project graduation requirement, made possible by the generous working community of Carson City, the myriad of old and newly formed clubs offered to the students of Carson High, and on-site income earners like The Greenhouse Project, not to mention the Career and Technical Education Jump Start program offered through Western Nevada College, students are figuring out quickly that high school is not the end of their education before starting a career, it is where they may actually begin their careers.

The main, special event is the Count Basie 111th Birthday Bash, 8 to 10 p.m., on the Third Street Stage between Carson and Curry Streets in Carson City.
The Music Festival began in 2004 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of William "Count" Basie, Aug. 21, 1904-April 26, 1984.
Consort Canzona presents 'Madrigals and Dances: A celebration of Renaissance music'

Sonia Carlson to speak, demonstrate calligraphy at Legislative Building March 19

The event runs until 5 p.m. in Room 3100. All “Work of Artists” presentations are free and open to the public.
Growing up in Zhangzhou, China, Carlson learned calligraphy in school and folk dances from her family.
