Although Veterans Day was observed yesterday, there are several things today that honor our former members of the military. Battle Born Harley Davidson is throwing an appreciation party complete with food trucks. Virginia City’s annual Veterans Day Parade begins at 11 a.m. and the City of Reno will commence their parade after a short ceremony beginning at 11:11 a.m. You’ll find an abundance of craft fairs in Carson City, Carson Valley, and Dayton. While you’ll always find a jazz jam at Living the Good Life and karaoke at Caterpillar’s Hookah Lounge on Wednesdays, today offers some special choices. Choose Applebee’s for lunch or dinner and you’ll notice that your server looks suspiciously like a law enforcement officer. The Tip-a-Cop fundraiser benefits the athletes of the Special Olympics. Find some holiday treasures at the Carson City Senior Center. Unique Crafters Holiday Fair in their thrift shop showcases hand-crafted gifts by area seniors. Shoot for the stars at the Elks Hoop Shoot Contest at the Douglas County Community Center.

The Unique Crafters Gift Shop inside the Carson City Senior Center presents its annual Holiday Faire, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 8.

Women love to shop, and guys walk around carrying their purchases, right? Well, maybe. It sure sounds like a stereotypical shopping experience, but it is not. The Carson High School Holiday Craft Fair, the area's best Christmas holiday shopping experience, is coming Nov. 17-18, and it is a time for ladies to purchase physical items and men to enjoy kinds of available food groups.

Welcome to the weekend, Carson City. Now that we are in November, thoughts turn to the holiday season. That means craft fairs. St. Paul’s Lutheran Family on Saliman welcomes you to their annual Craftique Open House. You’ll find the Young at Heart Seniors Club hosting a faire at the Douglas County Community Center. The Carson Nugget’s Sierra Room will be home to several artisans, vendors, and crafters during today’s wine walk. There’s quite a bit more, and plenty that doesn’t involve shopping, so take a look and have a great time.

SATURDAY:

Chances are, you’ll need to recover from yesterday a little. Downtown Carson City has you covered with a ‘Sunday, Bloody Mary Sunday’ bloody mary contest in Arlington Square. Get your trick-or-treat on at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada or at the historic Wungnema House at the east end of Mills Park. Grand Entrance at the La Ka Lel Be Pow Wow begins at 12 p.m. Its new home at the Multi-purpose Athletic Center (MAC) has let the annual event become even bigger. You’ve got one last chance to get your fill of cotton candy and the Ferris Wheel: the RSVP Nevada Day Carnival closes at 8 p.m.

SUNDAY:

It’s Nevada Day weekend, and that means the annual parade and festivities will bombard downtown Carson City with thousands of revelers. I made the decision to put all of the parade related events into a separate list for a few reasons: one, this list would be way too long otherwise; two, Halloween fun is plentiful all weekend long; and three, I want my list to be as easy to read as possible. Read on for events throughout Carson City, Carson Valley, Dayton, Silver and Virginia Cities.

Finally, Nevada Day weekend is here. State offices are closed, the kids are off school, and Carson City is hoppin’. Join the Downtown Business Association for the ‘Passport to Downtown’ with live music, a raffle, craft and vendor show, and a family fun center, complete with petting zoo. Stick around for the annual fall Blinky Man Costumed Nighttime Bike Ride Pub Crawl with Lights. Halloween festivities, a carnival in Mills Park, and opening night of the La Ka Lel Be Pow Wow are on today’s list, as well.

The countdown continues. Nevada Day is observed Friday, so get ready for an action-packed three-day weekend. Head down to Old Town Dayton for their annual Haunted Hayrides into History. You’ll find games, refreshments, Ghostly Pioneers, and it’s the perfect place for your costume. The Boys and Girls Club invites you to their ‘Lights on Afterschool’ event with an ice cream social, face painting, games, bounce house, S.T.E.M. labs and more. A Dodgeball battle at the Multi-Purpose Athletic Center raises money for Domestic Abuse Awareness.

Nevada Day is just around the corner, but don’t jump the gun. This weekend offers fun for the young and young-at-heart. If you’ve got more apples than you know what to do with, the Greenhouse Garden Center has a cider press available today. Play BINGO for a good cause at the Carson City Senior Center, and don’t forget your costume. Carson City Symphony Association begins their 34th Season today with a concert at the Bob Boldrick Theater; as always, those under 18 get free admission.

Welcome back to the weekend, readers. Halloween stuff is plentiful (go HERE for a complete list of upcoming activities), pumpkins are patched, the ghosts are walking, and there are loads of events to keep you, your friends and family entertained. The Harvest Train at the Nevada Railroad Museum is a fun treat for kids of all ages. It’s time for the annual all-day downtown Ghost Walk. From 10 a.m.

It’s a roller derby kind of day. Catch the Carson Victory Rollers at the Carson City Community Center as they scrimmage to raise funds for Moms on the Run. You’ve still got plenty of pumpkin opportunities with the Nevada Railroad Museum’s Harvest Train or the Corley Ranch Harvest Festival in Gardnerville. It’s a classic whodunnit on the big screen. Leaves turning, wind blowing, and all things pumpkin sprouting up everywhere. It is absolutely autumn in Northern Nevada. Get ready for Halloween with your choice of pumpkin patches. Seeliger Elementary School is hosting theirs for the twenty-fifth year in a row. Take a trip on the V and T Steam Train at the Nevada Railroad Museum, actually take several trips. The annual Harvest Train event offers an all-day wristband that allows for as many rides as you’d like, in addition to museum admission. So many more fun activities are available to you, you’ll have to read on to see them all.

It might be a blustery Sunday, but the snow isn’t falling yet so enjoy what’s left of our Indian Summer. Whatever you couldn’t cram into Saturday is probably still around: the Aviation Round-up, Italian Festival, and the Outhouse races are still going strong. The Carson City BMX season is coming to an end soon, go check out their races at Livermore Sports Complex. Some weekends are pretty cut and dry, just a few things to choose among. This, however, is not one of those weekends. High-flying, death-defying action takes over the Minden Airport as the Aviation Roundup Air Show takes to the skies. Pasta-lovers won’t want to miss the Eldorado Great Italian Festival in downtown Reno. Carson City’s monthly Downtown Wine Walk gets a dose of nostalgia as the Western Airstream Convention sets up shop and welcomes the curious.

With all the motorcycles on the road, you may be looking for some peace and quiet. Luckily, it’s fee-free day at all of the Nevada State Parks. Load up the kids, pack a picnic, at head to the great outdoors. Don’t miss out on the last-of-the-season Farmers Market at Third and Curry, stock up on local honey and load your basket with yummy stuff. Oktoberfest takes over the McFadden Plaza at 3 p.m. Bavarian and German beers, authentic food, and live music await. Keep reading for everything the area has to offer.

Summer is holding on for dear life, and sending a miniature heat wave our way for this long weekend. For those of you not in Black Rock City, the Carson City region offers plenty of recreation and entertainment. Downtown will be hopping with the Farmers Market, monthly Wine Walk, and this season’s last outdoor concert at the Brewery Arts Center – and that’s just Saturday! Summer weekends make me wish I had a clone. With all the hustle and bustle in town, there is just no way to do and see it all. Start the day at the Silver Dollar Car Classic and you can get your fill of shiny chrome and breakfast, too; the Kiwanis will be serving up pancakes until 10:30 a.m. The Downtown Carson City Wine Walk has been infiltrated by the Jazz and Beyond Music Festival. Several of the stops will be hosting musicians, in addition to vino.

Join us at the first Carson City Cottage Festival. We will have music, food, and be during the Wine Walk.
The festival will be set up in the Carson Nugget parking lot, on N. Carson Street.

What are you in the mood for? The Third and Curry Farmers Market is always a great place to start off your weekend. Kids won’t mind getting up early for the Young Eagle airplane flights at the Carson City Airport – they are free of charge for kids 8 – 17, you just need to be on time for registration. The Annual Chili Cook-off returns to Glen Eagles this weekend; with live music, a craft fair, and lots of yummy stuff to eat, raising money for Honor Flight has never tasted so good. If you happen to be up very early on Saturday morning, you may just see some runners in the pre-dawn hours. The Reno-Tahoe Odyssey, a 178 mile relay, passes through Carson City on its way to Virginia City. A huge congratulations goes out to the Class of 2017; the Carson High graduates will get their diplomas today. It’s wine walk weekend, so downtown will be hopping with sippers, strollers, and plenty of summer fun. Keep reading, and you’re sure to find something to make this weekend special.

Come out to the greatest indoor flea market in Carson City. We always have a great time with many different vendors every month. We are located out at Fuji park on Old Clear Creek Road across from Costco. We have crafters, antiques, art, food and lots of music. We are open 8-4 on Saturday May 27 and 9-4 on Sunday, May 28. Smack dab in the middle of April and the town is officially in its Spring thaw. Easter is on Sunday, so just about anywhere you go you’ll find the Bunny and an egg hunt. To make it easy, I’ve moved all of those events to their own everything Easter list HERE.

So much is happening this weekend, that breaking my weekend list up seemed like the only thing to do. Eggs galore, brunches, and family friendly fun is what you’ll find here. Whether you’re in Carson, Douglas, Dayton, or Virginia City – there’s something fun just around the corner. The week winds to a close, but the events are all gearing up. Today kicks off the three-day High School Rodeo at the Douglas Fairgrounds, and if all goes well, it should remain dry for our local ropers and riders. Kids will want to test their skill at the ‘Pitch, Hit, Run’ Competition at the Boys and Girls Club. Secret Agents are the topic at the monthly Mike Thompson Lecture at the Plaza Hotel if you’re looking for intrigue.

RENO, Nev. – Renown Health is opening a new family practice clinic in the Summit Mall in early spring. The clinic covers three vacated storefronts, including those previously occupied by Jos. A Banks, which moved to a location near Meadowood Mall.

Just one last week to go until Hanukkah and Christmas. The Carson Mall is jam-packed full of crafters and unique shops for some of your last-minute gift purchases. Hop in the car and take a tour of the brightly lit downtown and houses throughout the area. Kids will enjoy decorating a cookie at Genoa Candy and Coffee in Carson Lanes; you may as well get there early and bowl a few games first.

Oh baby, it’s cold outside. Jack Frost seems to be working overtime this weekend, bringing temperatures that will barely rise above freezing. I suggest some hot cocoa. Join Santa at Adele’s for pictures, cookies, and something warm to drink, just remember to bring an unwrapped toy to donate.
