Art has many facets and can be found almost anywhere and within anyone. To me, there’s nothing more fascinating and entertaining than watching professionals execute their craft, totally absorbed and unaware of those watching them.

Heading into the backend of the work week, events lined up Thursday include day 1 of the 7th annual International Film Festival at the Carson City Community Center, a cardio and strength connection class offered through Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness, a free information session on the legal and financial aspects of long-term care hosted by Carson Tahoe Care Center, the Carson City GOP will host a meeting to discuss precinct organization, plus trivia night at Bella Vita Bistro, a Muscle Powered afternoon hike and a lecture on women’s suffrage movement history in Nevada. Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities over the next three days. Restaurants in Carson City will host Valentine’s Day specials on Friday. The Carson City Celtic Music series will be at the Brewery Arts Center on Saturday featuring Fortunate Strangers. Combined with live music and comedy at the Carson Nugget, the Carson City region is in store for a busy three days. Read on for more information.

Come on down to market at Fuji Park in Carson City and find some great treasures, lots of vendors to choose from. There is jewelry, arts, crafts, antiques, collectibles and so much more. The Casino Fandango has opened its new “Craft 55” bar, which is dedicated to craft beers and a pub-style menu with a few unique twists, including Duck Wings served with blue cheese dressing and celery sticks, bangers and mash, and chipotle shrimp cocktail, along with traditional pub fare such as sliders, bacon mac and cheese, buffalo chicken wings and more.

The Carson City School District is celebrating two new National Board Certified Teachers from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. Recognition will come at Tuesday’s school board meeting. NBCT is widely considered to be the highest professional recognition for educators and includes a five percent pay increase in acknowledgement of accomplished teaching.

Heading into Tuesday, activities around the capital city area include a meeting of the Carson City School Board, a gathering of the Carson City Toastmasters at Max Casino, a free presentation in Gardnerville that focuses on understanding Alzheimer's and dementia, plus a showing of the documentary about social media, "Like" in Reno, art exhibitions, and more.

Heading into the last Monday of January 2020, we're looking at sunny skies and a warm-up, with highs in the low 50s. Activities around the capital city include a a luncheon highlighting the campaign of Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren, a free Partnership Carson City Yoga class at the Carson City Community Center, art activities and showings, swing dance lessons at Carson Lanes and more. Heading into the last weekend of January there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include a Chinese New Year Celebration at the Nevada State Museum and the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada. The Carson Comedy Club hosts its first Military Appreciation Night on Friday at the Carson Nugget. Carson Valley’s 18th annual Eagles and AG Photo Contest will be underway and live music will keep the Silver State buzzing with excitement. Read on for more information.

Heading into Thursday, activities lined up include a cardio and strength connection class offered through Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness, a Polka Dot Powerhouse Women's Group luncheon at Red's Old 395 Grill, art showings, live music with Dale Poune at Gather, a meeting of the Carson City GOP at Casino Fandango featuring speaker Bob Potts from the Governor's Office of Economic Development, and more.

Hitting the halfway mark of the shortened work week, Wednesday events around town include Northern Nevada Development Authority's The Business Edge monthly meeting, "State of the Counties" at Casino Fandango, a Capital City Arts Initiative reception for the "Photo Finished 2020" exhibition featuring the works of 9 Carson High School students, a Bee City USA Carson City meeting at the community center, a women's Seeking Safety workshop, and more.

DAYTON, Nev. — The Dayton Chili Cookers are partnering with Healthy Communities Coalition’s Dayton Food Pantry for their annual chili cookoff, silent auction, and raffle to benefit the Pantry. Organizers say the community made this event a big success last year, when more than $3,700 was raised, and they are excited to see the turn out this year.

Returning from the holiday weekend, activities Tuesday around the capital city include the weekly gathering of the Carson City Toastmasters at Max Casino, a fundraiser at Pizza Factory in Carson City for a lifelong local and coach who has been ill, art showings and more.

Heading into Monday and the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday we're looking at cloudy skies with a daytime high around 50 degrees. City, state and federal offices are closed as are schools. Friends of the Carson City Library's Browser's Book Store at 711 East Washington St., is open from noon to 5 p.m. Activities around the capital city include a canyon area cleanup hosted by Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space, a luncheon highlighting the campaign of Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang, swing dance lessons and more. Winterfest is here, and the theme, Carson's Got Game, is more than just a nice motto, it is a series of multiple physical board games, playground games, and video games. According to CHS physical education teacher and Leadership adviser Ann Britt, “the class color teachers will be playing a game of life-size Hungry Hippo during the assembly Jan. 17, and we will be doing a door decorating competition with judging taking place Jan. 21; the top three winners will receive a gift card to Starbucks.”
