Carson City fundraiser to help rider's journey to raise horse adoption awareness

An independent and assisted living community in Carson City will host a fundraising event Tuesday to support a Nevada woman's effort to bring awareness and support to wild horse adoption.

The event, dubbed "Along for the Ride" will be done in support of Samantha Szesciorka, who, for the second time since 2013, will ride across Nevada by horseback to advocate for wild horses.

Austin's House board thanks sponsors and community for generous support

The Board of Directors, staff and children of Austin's House would like to thank the entire community for the tremendous support of our 2015 Appeal For Kids and 2016 Cowboy Mardi Gras fundraisers.

The 2015 Appeal For Kids ended on January 31 and our generous community stepped up once again to help local children in crisis. The Cowboy Mardi Gras fundraiser on February 26 was our best ever. Eeveryone had a great time for a great cause! Every dollar raised will be used to pay for operating expenses at Austin's House.

VIRGINIA CITY — Local celebrity and cowboy music performer John Tyson will bring his “American Cowboy” show back to the Gold Hill Hotel on Thursday, Feb. 18, as part of the Gold Hill Hotel’s Thursday Night Presentation Series.

Tyson, a Vietnam veteran, has worked as a law enforcement officer, range manager, working cowboy, train engineer, entertainer and journalist. He is best known regionally as a former reporter for KOLO-TV Channel 8.

But he is also well known for his cowboy songs and poetry, and stories about cowboys of the Old West.
