Sunday, Aug. 21: What's happening around Carson City

It’s a ducky day to be a dog. The Nevada Humane Society’s annual Duck Race and Festival in downtown Reno raises funds for our area shelters and gives one lucky duck the chance to win a car. Splash Dogs at Heritage Park in Gardnerville has one last day of competitions for some talented pooches. There’s a riot at Mills Park. Don’t worry, this isn’t the kind of riot you want to avoid: the Rockabilly Riot has roared into town and offers rad cars, drag races, live music, a burlesque show and tattoo expo. Intermingled with the pompadours and pin-up girls are hundreds of law enforcement officers in town to show off their skills at the Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge. Tonight you’ll have to choose where you go for free music: the street dance at Jimmy G’s, Gold Dust West, Westside Pour House, the Fandango, Nugget, or Max Casino.

Evans Broadcasting acquires Reno radio stations

Evans Broadcasting Company, Inc., a Carson City-based radio broadcasting business, recently purchased two Reno FM radio stations, said company spokesman Stephen Thomas.

A new exhibit has hit town. Over the weekend, the Nevada Artists Association welcomed new works for its Imagination show. Join the United Federal Credit Union for their ribbon cutting this afternoon, and enjoy live music and BBQ.
